Once again, my limited tech knowledge irritates me and some hubber advice would be much appreciated.....

What are the pros and cons between the abovementioned? I am between beginner and intermediate with regards to riding skill, so would moving from QR to TA actually make a difference to me?

Not likely that you feel the difference on the trail, If you buy a bike with a QR front then leave it as is, you would be wasting money changing the fork and hub to a TA and vice versa...

I went from riding a 26er with 9mm QR, to a 29er with 20mm TA. There is a difference. Its not exponentially different, but its definitely better. I also read those articles Hayleyearth posted before i went 20mm TA.

Like with anything...good equipment often raises your confidence  :whistling:

Yes changing wheelsize makes a difference in more than one dimension, but I think OP is asking if you have a 29er with QR would it make a difference going to a 29er TA...apples for apples. I have ridden a TA and a QR on 29er, and can honestly say I didn't feel that the bike was out of control or squirrely with the QR.

Yup I know what he was asking. Just wanted to be clear on my experience. My 29er rims initially had 9mm QR, but i opted to go 20mm TA

You can't just change - front wheel you need to get a new fork and rear wheel you might need a new frame.

Interestingly I didn't notice a huge improvement when going from a 9mm QR to the 15QR standard, until I test rode a 29'r with a 9mm QR recently and there was a huge difference! Can't believe anyone would still opt for an open dropout fork on a 29'r it's just retarded when compared to the 15QR system

I actually had to do the thru-axle conversion last night on a new American Classic Wide Lightning wheelset for my Specialised Epic.

I have been on a technical workshop so I thought I would give it a go myself rather than the hassling my LBS with it. It took me about 3 hours to do the conversion and swop my cassette and rotors over, but by my standards that is not bad time.

Downloaded the instruction manual from the AC website.
