Stages Power Meters to Hit South Africa

So its happened. Stages has done a deal to start supplying into the SA market.

Omnico to distribute Stages power meters in Southern Africa | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News -http://www.bicycleretailer.com/international/2014/07/23/omnico-distribute-stages-power-meters-southern-africa#.U9IT8aBBsm9

They were fairly low key until they signed up with Team Sky and now there is a 3 to 5 week waiting list if you want 1 in the US.

Pros:

1. Super light - 20g.

2. Simple to install and switch between bikes.

3. Claim 2% accuracy as per powertap and Quarq etc..

4. Auto temperature correction and callibration.

Cons:

1. Only avaiable for alloy cranks not carbon so no Campy compatibility.

2. Left leg only so if you have a real unbalanced profile between left and right legs it must give innacurate readings - although Stages claim that tests have shown this to be negligible.

3.

Going to be great to see another power meter supplier in SA - lets hope their pricing is in line with the US options.

This is a few of their most popular units in the range and their prices in the US.

Stages Power meter - Dura-Ace track, 7900 and 9000 $899.99

Stages Power Meter - Ultegra 6700, 6750 and 6800 $799.99

Stages Power meter - 105 $699.99

Stages Power Meter - FSA Energy $699.99

Stages Power meter - Rival $699.99 (GXP version)

Stages Power meter - XTR M980 or M985 $899.99

Stages Power meter - XT M780/785 $799.99

Stages Power meter - X9 $699.99

Not sure of pricing in SA but in the UK the units sell for 40% more than in the US. Hope that wont be the case here.

"Stages Power meters will be available in Southern Africa in September, through Omnico; prices will range between R9500 and R12000 retail, depending on crank make and model selected."

That would imply a 20% increase over US retail pricing - not as harsh as the UK's 40% difference.

The coolthing about all the Shimano cranks are that they are compatible with each other. ie the 105 10speed crank arm will work perfectly with the new Dura Ace 9000 11 speed crank and it will save you R2500.

very cool DJPak.

Have you found it to give consistent power readings?

I think it works well. And I have Dogma which is a heavy frame so only 20g is so nice esp for me hahaha

And still cheaper than anyother power meter
