Bike was in good condition. They even wrapped it!! Many hoops and payments, but it was worth it. Mozambique works differently to any country i have experienced. Laws are made and changed and adapted to suit pretty much everyone. It was a fellow cyclist who was open minded and not stupid. Was just lucky that he was the one who was approached to "buy a special imported bike". The setup in Moz for stolen bikes is huge. When i crossed the border on turesday this week, i saw the same guy who had my bike. Nothing changes in africa. Then yesterday evening Bell's Cycling in Nelspruit was broken into and 6 Specialized bikes stolen. Coincidence????... I dont think so. Its the same group. All 6 were top end bikes. I dont think this means dont buy Specialized, because they will shift their focus soon enough to other brands and then the high end ranges. Moral of the story....insure your expensive bikes and keep them extra safe. The police dont give a damn and the border control is pathetic. I can state this from first hand experience. Ps..i also managed to find my friends bike (Specialized tarmac) during the same operation. If we show these criminals that cyclist will not buy stolen bicycles, then we might start to neutralize this kind of theft. That is the part we as cyclist can do. We should all stand together in that aspect. Point out stolen bike buyers and shops who look suspicious! Maybe start a forum where we could list suspicious "owners" and "shops".

We can all learn from this experience, and follow ELF's example. Its our obligation as cyclists to support each other and stop these syndicates and the easiest and mist practical way......DONT BUY STOLEN BICYCLES. It is really easy to smell a rat.

And just as a last input into this saga....there was a reward for finding the bike...ELF didn't want it!

Wow, we need more people like ELF.

I can only imagine how many stolen bikes are lurking around in Moz.

my question is where do they go from there, i said on another thread i know transporteRs who say they know of containers of bikes going to north africa and from there they are shipped to europe, i cant see why not as the market here local would quickly find the hundreds of bikes that are  going missing, so there has to be another outlet for all these top end bikes

What a story, the power of the hub!

Wish some police people would get to the bottom of this because these truckloads high end bikes aren't all getting sold on in Moz.

How much did the guy selling the stolen bike expect to get for it?
