ROUTE DESCRIPTION

One of the most scenic rides on the calendar, using private property not normally open to the public. All routes incorporate flowing single-track, jeep and “tweespoor” tracks through wheat, canola fields and fynbos, offering stunning views.

The 65 km route takes riders to the top of Swartberg from where you can see all the way to Table Mountain and across the Swartland on a clear day. Be ready for a technical downhill that will test both brakes and downhill skills. The downhills have rocky sections that need to be navigated with care. Climbs, descents and flat sections are evenly dispersed, with about 11% single track; 15% easy gravel roads and the rest on ‘tweespoor’ jeep tracks, with some 600m of climbing.

The 45 km route pedals through wheat-fields on jeep tracks, returning via a fast single-track. Expect some 17% single-track, 19% gravel roads and the remainder on scenic “tweespoor”. The route offers good single-track with easy-to-ride surfaces.

The 20 km route is fairly flat, takes place over gentle rolling hills; and is suitable for novices and children.

Routes can be viewed on our Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/SwartlandMTB

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE

From Cape Town, take the N7 past Malmesbury and Moorreesburg in the direction of Piketberg. Some 12,5 km north of Moorreesburg and just past the Koringberg turn-off, turn right onto the Misverstand gravel road. Don’t turn left at Koringberg. Turn right at the next Misverstand sign and follow the signs to the venue at Club Elani.

Can anyone who did this race last year pls confirm whether the 650m climbing on their Facebook site is accurate for the 65km? Have some friends trying to go up from 40km rides and don't want to terrify them of it is not right... Ta.

One big climb in the first half of the race as you go up to the top of Koringberg. Tough but def doable for regular half-marathon riders. Rest is flat & fast with a few rollers but nothing noteworthy. Probably a bit more than 650m climbing overall though.

OK, cool, thx, Skubarra. Is the climb the same one that we did when the race still started at Org de Rac, by any chance? (if they want to kill me I need someone to blame :) )

I never knew my younger riding days... Nothing to miss, except the apex of a corner!

Either way I am in ***, cos they have entered on my assurance it is fast and flat. :(
