Head says no but the 'fiddler' in me says why not ....

The one year the Stumjumper S-Works FSR had a front fork that had adjustable travel from 140 to 120 and the rear stayed at 140.

So I see no problem here, just put a bit more PSI and a slower rebound in the back.

...........just saying .... would the 120-140mm option on that bike not have been with the idea that the 120mm setting was for steep climbs and the 140mm would be the ticket on the downs?

That was the idea, the point remains is that the head tube can deal with the added "stress"

just do it - can see absolutely no reason not to try it

putting a really long fork on a frame thats not designed for it 'may' over stress the headtube - putting a shorter for on will not, and we are only talking 20mm here

Every bike gets designed around the fork and the head tube angle accordingly, changing any of that will put "stress" not the inverted commas.

There will be stress either way you go, up or down.

However, that "stress" is so minuscule that it makes no real difference.

I'm not worried, like I said decided to give it a go anyway ;) - thanks again!

Don't stress it and just build it ..... poor attempt at humour done for the day

Well run a 26er on the back and a 650b up front with the 100mm fork to start with

I often do this , bike accelerates nice and quick out of corners and the front ploughs over things, my favourite setup when i go and try and get better strava times in Tokai, esp the bridal and cobra

although i run 140 infront ..140 back

Seems I have some experimenting to go and do :)

Sorry y'all can't give feedback as the 'project' has been shelved .... a 28" wheel (his words not mine) won't fit I tried it and it it was pretty shabby anyway.

Will keep looking out for something though :)
