i laughed when i guy tried to come buy and some one shouted F*&^ off this is my place.

I saw a guy total his bike on a pavement because no one would let him move one space up into the bunch.

I saw a guy after a fall on wynberg hill try get back on in his 53 18

Last year i saw a guy answer his phone in simons town going down hill and took down 3 people in the process

Anyway... don't seem to have this problem in the VA bunch... The fast people go to the front and everybody falls into place after that...

my advice, following on from Slowpoke, would be to ride the smaller more interesting races that normally have 600 to 1200 people in the race not in a start group! (Jock, Kremetert, Cradle)

and while some people are inept and co-ordless in handling a bike I dont think that is the main problem - look at the crashes in groups A to D vs Open ZZ to the back of the field. The top groups have guys that have been cycling for a good few years and train on the road for hundreds of hours per year seem to have the biggest crashes!!

I reckon if you got every protour rider and reserve and the euro pros to fill a race with 710 people, start them all at the same time, make sure that they are all racing as individuals (each one must believe he is a team leader who is racing to win) and them enter them into a fast, flattish short race and see what will happen - mayhem

do the same thing in the argus with less talented riders - also mayhem!

Spinny - we have to talk about the Argus all of this week and most of next, there ain't much else cooking these days and it's the only way to counter the volume of HR's quirky-vaguely-interesting-here we-go-again-OT-news stories.

So..

Darwin award - cyclists on the highway to the start in the dark with no lights;

Fisticuffs - guys with sleeping bags to be 1st out of G chute pushed past by latecomers

Oh come on - waiting for guy in portaloo on road with bunch moving forward.  If you need that long to sort out your plumbing, you're in no fit state to race.

After you - Guys walking their bikes down the side of the bunch waiting to start - that's fine you go ahead, we'll wait here then.

and where's my back-up vehicle?

But

Great day, great race, wished I could have looked around more & it was over too quick.

Guy playing in the beer tent at the end was doing a marvellous job when I saw him.

Must say though that the first crash in the VA bunch happened at the mats as someone managed to crash into the straw bails at the start, as for the rest, 90% just suck wheel, which I surpose reduces the risk of crashes, just a littlebit anyoing at the end when they then try and sprint, normally for 70th place

Coming down Llandudno the same thing happened to me. This guy on a Prince Pinarello swore and shouted at me coz I tried to take my turn in front. This dude was just wheel sucking the whole.

I screamed back at him along with the rest of the bunch who told him where he should get off.

Did not ride the World Funride Champs.  Cry

Just gets me that year after year the guys complain about the same thing.  Sensless to me really.

If you expect it, why complain?

You have da sea and da ocean and da mountain and stuff and still you stress up about rude people.......even if you know that somewhere in the ride there WILL be an idiot shouting.......

Maybe its just me.  http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/jjen.gif

Sorry HR - maybe it was the antipoedean whales and dolphins that tipped me over the edge; or Boris the amazing jumping cricket; or New Sugar Sweets - dissolve when wet; or Postman bites dog.

Carry on, don't mind me if you've still got a market for this stuff.
