I have just received new XT brake calipers, I am replacing the old style SLX brakes, the slx brakes has the straight screw in bolt, however the XT has a Banjo{correct term}Does anyone know if the Banjo requires an Olive or not??

The olive is part of the compression fitting that connects the hose to the barb on the banjo. To assemble, slide the compression nut onto the hose, followed by the olive, then push the hose barb into the hose and tighten to spec.

For the banjo to caliper connection, one O-ring onto the bolt, then the banjo, then the second O-ring, then screw the bolt into the caliper.

So pretty much exactly as you've got it laid out there.

Banjo bolts are pure evil. Thought we got rid of them after the original Hopes and quite sad to see them making a comeback. More weight, more sources for leaks, more fragile.

I guess the variety of frame and brake mounts now on the market requires a system that allows more range of hose alignments.

I have twice in the last few months taken bikes to the shop to have brake cables shortened. Both times I was told that the parts were not available. Both times Avids. What's up?

The agents are perpetually out of stock of everything, but still many orders of magnitude better than the Shimano agents...
