I agree with your comments,  age and wiseness gave the day to the heads.

My heart would have said split, but that would have been mostly anger at the poor performance of both the PPA and CSA in this whole affair, and I must admit that up until I listened to all the arguments, some of which were pathetic, my head said stay and lets hope that the parties can get thier act together.

The turnout was an exercise in apathy and the poor turnout of the younger generation, who have so much more to gain in the long run than us oldies was not too surprising. Have seen this same trend in other sports.

Good thing that there was no opportunity to delay the "sunset" clause, I believe that a lot of the problems have been caused by not being forced to make a decision earlier. As PPA members, we need now to put pressure on our "elected officials" to drive the unification process in a direction that will suit the needs of both the funriders, and the racers. We need more transparency and  improved reporting to the members in the future, this will go along way to eliminating the misconceptions that result in the ill feelings.

Was hoping to finally meet some of the hbbers, but saw no wrist bands and did not feel like walking around asking people "are you a hubber?"

THat would have been too much like the fugitive game on KFM radio

BTW I was on the lookout for Hubbers, hoping to meet some of you at last, but saw no wristbands.

Donkey - What happened last week - Giro a PPA event rolling road closure. Sunday - who care about rolling road closure let just close the M3 freeway for the whole morning while 35 000 cyclist pass not to mention the remaing 109km! Yes also a PPA event.

Go away donkey...

No, PPA and WPCA will be able to put together the best events when they work together as one for ALL CYCLISTS in the Western Cape. They are going to embrace and give great league and fun riding.

(I can dream can't I?)  Well done to all who turned up and voted

Last night I realised something.

1) The younger generation does not give a hoot about cycling. All they want is competition and they don;t care who or how it is administered. I think I was one of maybe 10 under 40's at the meeting. Pathetic!

2) PPA EXCO is largely to blame for the situation we find ourselves in with CSA. For years nothing has been done to drive our (PPA) agenda with CSA. They sit back and play the victim and present that to the members as fact. I feel very strongly that a totally new EXCO should be elected. I have no confidence in the current committee.

3) CSA is doing more for cycling than what the PPA EXCO would have us believe. I believe there is an agenda within the PPA EXCO; Last night not one EXCO member, save for David, gave any counter arguement as to why PPA should remain. That arguement was largely presented by 3 people who basically repeated what the first guy said. CSA is what we make of it.

It seems strange that the EXCO would have an agenda to move outside of CSA....but then when i think about it it's probably just about power and resistance to change.

The EXCO largely has not changed for the last 5 yrs. Same faces, same people. I think they're ve become to accustomed to their position and power.

Bottom line they have done very little. Most of what has been acheived has been on the shoulders of 2 or 3 people.

Very disappointing, very very poor leadership.Angry

Interesting viewpoint, GoLefty.  That is the impression I get of PPA over the last few years, but I don't really feel I am in a position to comment being outside of the WC and only visiting every few years.

The little power struggle of the WC does remind me of the ASO/UCI battle, except CSA seems to have better ideas than the UCI, and PPA has nowhere near the business sense and capbility of the ASO.  Perhaps CSA could take over the UCI and the ASO could take control of PPA.

I don't know enough about that political battle. What I do know is that a shake up is needed in the Western cape and that the bed bugs need to be removed.

We gave given time and patience and the same people who do achieve things for us, do so and those who don;t just ride the coat tails and rap the glory. PPA EXCO is like that. It could be an interesting AGM in August but sadly I don't think anyone under 40yrs old gives a ****.

I am under 40 and I was there!!!

But yes it was a dissapointing turnout.

My thoughts are, if you don't try to do something e.g. going to the meetings, you aren't allowed to complain.

Whoever inserted the "sunset clause" knew what he was doing because it has forced the PPA's hand. if they (PPA Exco) could hve delayed the decision they would have.

Went to one meeting a few years back, and vowed NEVER EVER again... and I still stick to that vow.

Such bull is spoken, and yes, it is not about cycling or cyclists, but me myself and power.... Well done to all who attended, for the sake of cycling  and heres hoping that this year may be the one of change.

Groot Lem... recover quickly, and take care.
