its hard

In the final race of the Summer League on Saturday at HNP

with all the Europcar elite riders we only managed an average speed of 40.5 km/h for 15 km.

To do that for 50 km is just crazy

You think its hard in a bunch...try on your lonesome next time you go out

The world will be watching

Gonna be intense

I hope they have a good commentry team and show some good live stats (power / HR / speed etc) otherwise it might not be that interesting to watch

Any idea of what wattage he needs?

Any idea of what wattage he needs?

Or more specifically watts/kg

Gonna be cool

I wonder what pre-meal(s) he'll take and drink on the bike

According to Dr Ferrari, Tony Rominger needed 455-460w to achieve his 55.291 in 1994, which is 6.9 w/kg. No limit EPO era...

Jens is a legend but I can't help but feel this is a publicity stunt.

No sorry.... this is the kind of stuff i hope the commentators touch on

Watts/kg really does not matter. What matters is watts/drag where the drag is the combination of mechanical resistance and air resistance.

Watts/kg only matters when you are climbing, which is normally the important thing for road races because this is where time gaps are made/lost.

I would has it a guess at roughly 460-470 watts to get to 50km on the hour.

That's with him and bike weighing in at 82kg's (have no clue what he weighs)

Second thought,

could even go as low as 430-440 if he has a great aero-position but i dont think it would be that low.

Average watts for the hour will be rather interesting to see

WRT to the record attempt, Jensie gains an advantage over the previous record holder due to technology so he "should" have a good chance and coupled with his "shut up legs" attitude this moves to an excelent chance...and he has the experience of a Master
