I know there are many options for a MTB cassettes to make the biggest cog a 40-42 T

Is there anything like that available for road bikes? I am looking for a 28T ?

It's possible to mix and match cassette bits, but I can't say that sales of various bits is very common.

So getting just the bigger cogs is the challenge.

Just note that there is a chance that you might have to replace your rear derailleur for a SRAM wifli or a Shimano XT to shift into a big rear sprocket

Only if you go 30 or above... :-)

I was hoping that some manufacturer has started doing the same for road as MTB where you can just add in a 28t or a 28/30t

I love my sram 11-25 just need a little more for the steeper hills with my MTB conditioned legs

also depends on your RD cage length, if medium or long you may be able to go with a bigger cassette than a 28, if you have a short cage RD then you will need to change it.

An alternative is to go compact crank at the front which will give you a smaller granny gear ir change the chainrings on your current crank

Already on a compact.....but riding MTB so much that I am not used to the Road gearing, want to rather spin up the hils in a 34/28 than 34/25

Just go a bit quicker with the 34/25 and you will still be able to spin
