Hey there

Fairly new to the hub, but have been browsing it for quite some time...

Large for sure. I'm 179 and would go large with a short stem. Super short if needs be.

Thanks for the advice guy's, Brawler was kind enough to let me go and jump on his Reign yesterday and I fell in love. Already put the deposit down and looks like I will have it by Friday.

Too excited!

So I finally got the Reign, well actually got it on Wednesday, and took it for its first ride yesterday at Tokai. It's amazing, such a great ride, especially coming from a hardtail. There is definitely going to be a learning curve though as things feel completely different, but in a good way.

The large also feels good, definitely think it was the right size for me, might shorten the stem, but will still have to think about it.

Thanks again for the help guys!

So I took the Reign shuttling on Sunday, and all I can say is wow...this bike really is a beast. Just tears through whatever you can throw at it, and gives you confidence you never knew you had. Was such an amazing experience!

Thanks Omega Man for organising such a great day of shuttling!

And just for a laugh I thought I would show you all what it was exactly that I upgraded from, although I don't even think the word "upgrade" describes the difference between my 2006 Silverback Alpine and my new Reign. Used to have horrible pain in my hands after riding due to the fact that you had to use three fingers to flipping pull the brakes to get that thing to stop.

Still can't get over how amazing this bike actually is!

Sooooo still enjoying my Reign. Just wish I can ride it properly more. The every 2nd day trip around Rondebosch common doesnt do it justice. Rhodes mem gets boring fast to.

At least I'm getting good weekend riding time.

Anyone made any upgrades yet? I'm still stock and very happy (nothing stands out that needs to be upgraded asap). I'm a bit scared of 1x10 for the hectic climbs and 1x11 is super expensive. Wheelset is still perfect and can't justify R6500 (Flow ex on Hope) just to save a few grams.

Someone said I should change my rear tyre to something a bit smaller and less aggressive. Currently have Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.35" Performance Folding. The only time I really felt like dying pedalling the bike was at GRTP after doing all of the trails in the summer heat. I believe we did about 29KM. I don't want to sacrifice its downhill ability too much. Any recommendations?

Rock Razor Super Gravity, if you can find one. Seriously. Smaller middle knobs than the racing ralph, same side knobs as the Magic Mary.

Hans dampf is perfect while you still have it though. Don't get rid of it.

Ja, save it for the front when it wears low. RR out rear is a good rec.

Is this the exact one?

I see there are a few RR.

Someone also said I should check out the Onza Ibex.

Back on topic: I rode Paarl Downhill yesterday which is looking super rough at the moment and the Reign held its own beautifully. Just floats over rocks and jumps. Only complaint is Tyre wear. The rear tyre was EATEN ALIVE there by the rocks damn. Literally need to replace it now after one ride at Paarl. It was good as new before.

Yep. That's the one!

Ibex is good for the front, I think. But the rock razor is a fantastic rear tire. Allows you to get loose, but also digs HARD when you lean it...

before someone says its a 'schwalbe thing', dont believe em: Paarl is loose over very hard pack, much like g-spot in many places. I have a Maxxis High Roller II that was wearing quite nicely until one single session at G-spot. Shredded those knobs IHM (in hulle moer-in). I was not impressed.

As for replacement rear tyres, The super gravity rock razor is a nice option, Maxxis HR II is one as well.

The schwalbe one I would recommend however is the new Nobby Nic. Its not yet manufactured in super gravity carcass, so it will be a lot lighter, but i reckon its what the Hans Dampf should've been: rolls faster and grips better in more conditions.

The HD, IMO, is very skittish when riding over marble sized rocks, and doesn't hook up very well (feels vague) in sandy conditions. TBH, I think its a very pressure sensitive tyre, so robbing it of set-and-forget versatility that i'm experiencing with the magic mary and high roller II.
