The case has been postponed to November 7.

Thanks - I was at court this morning - a lady in court room 2 said she was Alzira's sister. She was there with another attorney.

The case has been postponed to November 7. The accused is Raymond Evans.

Guys keep it tidy please, we all know what we think of Mr Evans, but the hub is clearly being checked out by reporters and the like, so the usual vitriolic attacks on the dude wont help Alriza.

Indeed, Red, no need for anyone to go postal here, but you will have to cede that there are many of us who would like to understand what kind of human(?) drives over someone to get away from an accident they have caused.

Without any doubt. I am sicked by this, as are most of us. But in cases like this it sometimes comes down to cyclists vs motorists and the less self inflicted reputational damage done to ourselves the better. There are a few hotheads here that make great copy

They postpone because they are so called investigating. Plus as far as I understand it, one of his counts is "driving under the influence" Our hope here is to find the officer in charge of his docket and help them as much as we can without "interfering" in the investigation. As for his charge of leaving the scene well all the people who were with her can confirm this.

What we have to do here as a community is try to help the investigation. This is key.

Get the papers involved as much as we can. They need to keep this up. They will also be key to this being a good result.

It's sad to have journalist to look over saps shoulders in the "hope" that these officers will do their job.

Absolutely but we need to do it here. There are ways and means. I can think of no better reason right now than for all of us to get involved in this case. If you are a cyclist and care about your sport this is the time to stand up and be counted.

Someone's life was changed forever last Sunday. She will never be the same again. It could have been anyone of us who owns a bicycle. Instead of just saying agghh shame poor person let's be a part of this and make it our business.

We all cared so much when Burry was killed. I too took an interest but let it slide. We are all in this together. If you can let's try and do something.

The resource potential of the people who frequent this forum is insane. All it takes is for a goodwill thread to gain traction here and you get to see for yourself! It would be seriously awesome to see the community step up and make sure this case stays visible in whatever way they can or have any influence over, without descending into an over the top uncouth slagging fest of the accused, as much as we all feel like giving him a proper mouth and earful, especially whilst it is extremely likely he is reading these pages!

Lets ask Liezel V D Westhuisen to get the PPA more invloved(already doing a good job). She is on the board, so lets use her STATUS as a public figure. Does anyone know her. Can even get Ryan O conner involved, they all cycle. AM I JUST CLUTCHING AT STRAWS.

Maybe PPA should engage a criminal attorney on a watching brief in these cases? Possibly also stump up for technical experts to deal with DUI etc?

Hope they drew his blood within the 2 hours after arrest/incident.

Excellent idea - I agree that this matter be used to make our collective voices heard. The PPA must get involved - either on a watching brief or applying to court to get admitted as an interested party in the proceedings. My concern is the prosecution - an inexperience prosecutor being allocated to the case and the accused represented by a silk. The state is going to need all the relevant evidence to get a conviction - no time to get off on technicalities.

We staged a silent "protest" outside the court on Thursday.

About 30 people turned up.

There in lies our problem,  PPA mailed ALL their members (+20,000) about the protest yet 30 people actually felt strongly enough about our safety as cyclists to make a real statement.

Rather embarrassingly for us as cyclists, there were more police escorting some noisy toitoing demonstration (edit that) than protesting cyclists.  And we all left when the noise arrived.

What are WE prepared to do to make our roads safer?

Well we know the next date is the 7th of November. Lets start getting the word out for that day and keep rallying to get people on board? I myself wanted to be there on Thursday but try as I might I could not rearrange a 9am business meeting I had. The 7th of November gives enough warning for people to make adequate arrangements and be there!

The other option is to pick an event like moonlight mass or The Burger or both to collect signatures and take this to the CoCT to protest safety issues for cyclists that we want them to address. This is something the PPA safe cycling campaign should spearhead! Would make sense to make their next bike to work day end at City Hall with an official hand over of the petition with cyclists en masse!

These tragic events keep happening and whilst they shock everyone when it's fresh and newsworthy, media will follow whatever the next thing is that happens and are rarely as interested with the same tenacity in the conclusion of the events. (Unless you're a celeb such as Oscar)

If we as cyclists step up and gather at these events in large groups and make it known that we will be there, then you will get continued coverage!

This is a great idea, however you don't need signatures, names would suffice...Maybe TheHub is the perfect platform to start collecting, a yes/no vote should suffice....

A call to Carteblanche should also give it the same air time as the incident in Sea Point when a group of cyclists attcked the guys in a Minivan. Remember they were banned from riding the Argus. Ps there are TOP COPS on this forum.

That said any news on Alriza`s condition.
