Rear Suspension

Hi guys.

I bought a giant trance 2 months ago and I'm sure i got a problem with my rear shock, it is the fox float ctd.

In the 2 months I have had the bike i have only cycled 5 times with it and only 3 of the 5 times has my suspension been right, the rest of the time my bike has been in the shop. A friend of mine set my rear pressure to 220psi and it was perfect.

1 week later there is no more pressure in the shock, the local bike shop can't help me and the said they sent it away for warranty to fox but they said there is nothing wrong. Is this normal and can someone please advise me what to do. Thanks

Have you checked if the valve is tightened properly?

Remove the shock from the bike, set the pressure and then submerge it in water to see if there is a leak anywhere...

2 possibilities, as I see it:

1. You're doing it wrong

2. Someone's talking poo.

Regarding point 1, are you using a shock pump to inflate? Are you using a shock pump again to check the pressure? Are you setting the shock up in open (descend) mode, or is it locked out or in trail mode? Did your friend teach you about how to set up sag correctly?

About point 2, does the shock start out fine at the beginning of the ride and get progressively worse?

I have had to send a Fox fork in 3 times in the last 12 months as each time a circlip inside falls off and the 130mm fork suddenly becomes a 150mm fork, they just fix it and sends it back...never addressing the problem of why it does this....! But I have a RP23 on my Trance and the pressure (around 240psi) drops off very little over the course of a week so to me its certainly fault. The Xfusion 02 I had on my last bike also lost minimal air over a week period.

New shock should not leak. Fox CTD on my new bike has only been pumped once the day I got it about 4 months back. Set the sag to spec then the rebound then miles of smiles.

If you are using a proper shock pump and setting correctly then don't let the supplier BS you that nothing is wrong.

The shock on my girlfriends bike had the same issue. We set up the sag using a shock pump and then about two weeks later its lost a lot of pressure. I ordered a Fox air can service kit on BuyCycle, youtubed how to service the air can, did it myself and boom, problem solved, no more pressure loss.
