Stick with BMC don't conform to the South African masses.

That makes perfect sense, buy a 50k bike so you don't conform.....WTF??? never heard such bull$hit in my entire life......

If the BMC is your preferred ride buy it.......If the Spez is your preferred ride buy it.........

There are two types of people.

(I'm expecting a bit of an ear bashing with what I'm about to say ;) )

Those who love Specialized.

Those who hate (hate might be a strong word in most cases, perhaps "dislike" is better suited) Specialized.

The latter , I assume, do so not because the bikes are rubbish but they see it as conforming ( Yes, I'm generalizing as I'm sure there are some who REALLY don't enjoy the feel of the bikes, but the brand can't be as big as it is if they made poo bikes)

I, don't conform, I don't do so to  "stand out in the crowd" but I like what I like, and if it happens to a popular product, be it a bicycle, pair of shoes, peri peri chicken or soccer player endorsed undies, so be it.

Yes, I've digressed off the OP's topic , but this is why.

Yes, BMC might be big and popular in Europe, but this is sunny SA and Spez in SA is pretty awesome IMO.

Jaco, I've had NOTHING but amazing service since being a "conforming" Spez Comp Carbon rider. My lbs had so much patience with me for months as I jumped between the Epic and Camber test bikes.

I Eventually decided on a Camber and it is AWESOME.

I've NEVER ridden a bike that descends as fast.

Chat to your closest Spez dealer and arrange a test bike.

Yes, you might not be able to test a BMC but perhaps riding a Camber will help you decide., Ride it properly, not just around the block or in the parking lot, ride a route you're used to and know.

just my 2c :D

Took the words out of my mouth, yes I ride a Camber......

BTW, I rode a BMC Fourstroke test bike for a stage of Berg and Bush last year and was mightily impressed, was R20k more than the camber so that closed the deal for me.....

Not very sharp, don't conform to riding Spez like everyone else, that was directed at brand and not price.

Ready to ride Tallboy,s with slx xt combo,s now available for around R50 000

Why buy such a expensive frame and spec is soo poorly. I dont understand that. That is some next level posing right there. If a frame is R35 000, you only going to spend R15 000 on wheels, fork, groupset, seat, handlebars etc. Thats like buying a s -works epic frame and then putting entry level comp carbon parts on it, just to say you have a s-works. And yes, unfortunately I know people like that. :(

If the spec is too much then he could even look at X1

I agree, its not very sharp to tell a guy looking for some advice to tell him not to buy a Spez so that he "doesn't conform to the South African masses".

Can tell him what I like its my opinion, why must he be like everyone. I don't dislike Spaz but I think BMC is different and its a awesome bike, and being different in my book is always good.

Yea end of the week brain is clearly cooked,my apologies, what I meant was that to me X1 is better than SLX.

Have to agree with this statement, 35k, for the frame and a further 8K ? for the fork that was tweaked by fox for this frame to get the best out of it and you have about 7k left over.

The other bike I may consider in the price range is the Rocky Mountain 970RSL, I think it was about 56K, but you can most probably pick a 2014 model up for under 50K now and that bike has a seriously good spec... Just a thought

But as to your original question, I really do believe it's completely subjective as you say...

I have 3 Bmc bikes, my primary road bike carries full Dura-ace. My mtb is full Xtr.

I have owned and ridden hardtail and full sus. I will simply not change as Bmc offer a brilliant ride and excellent back up iro warranty issues.

I test rode a BMC 4 stroke on trails while hunting 4 a bike - great bike, fast, comfy responsive but more a XC bike than trail bike. Reminded me of an Epic. The Stumpy 29er was also nice, more trail oriented but the spec I wanted was not available. Went over my budget on a Tallboy LTc and so happy I did. Totally awesome trail bike but useable for just about anything. Pedalling efficiency is much better than expected.

All these bikes suggested here are good. Choose the one that fits best.
