Where to recycle tyres

Greetings,

 

I am looking for a place to take old tyres to be recycled. All kinds (mtb 26/29, skinny's, bmx, etc).

 

Pretoria or Joburg.

 

Does anyone know of such a place?

Only know of one in Slaapstad . Here in Gauteng we burn the tyres and throw in the in the streets .

I leave my old tires out with the garbage, they have always been taken before the garbage men arrive. i presume other less fortunate cyclists use them. Usually I throw them out due to a sidewall cut / being too slippery for muddy single track.

There was a crowd at the cycle expo who made belts from used tires - maybe they would want them.

I actually collect friends old tubes and repair them and get hold of old tyres road or mtb and keep a stash in my car...when I see a commuter who needs help I generally donate parts to them, and if I feel like it be safe ill help the guys do the repair. ..iv seen guys use sticks to dismount tyres and all sorts...and always carry extra tubes on my commutes to work as well and give to guys who need help.

do you really do such a high amount of km's monthly that you actually need to replace tyres so soon and worry?

Or are you trying to start a business?

I think the LBS's should do the right thing and have a tyre bin out back,

then when they have enough they can dispose of them to organizations that use them,and will maybe buy them off them,since theLBS's are always wanting to make a dime...lol

Wait..car tyre and battery places have a disposal fee on their invoices...now thats easy money for them..LOL

Nope, I am not heavy on tires, so they last me very long, but just over the years I have not chucked the old ones away as I had the idea of recycling them. I have an about 10, road, bmx, 26r, 29r. 

No, not starting a business, but want to help an already established business that recycles them.
