Mounting a Fox Float "upside down"

Hi Hubbers

I have a Scott Spark Elite. I have replaced the standard DT Swiss Shock with a Fox CTD shock without the remote lock.

The bike is a small frame that only allows me to carry a small sized water bottle in the cage. I am now considering turning the shock "upside down" having the top of the shock face the seat tube instead of the top tube to free up space to be able to carry a standard sized water bottle. Could this have any negative effect on the shock or its performance? If anyone has done something similar, please share your experience.

It works fine, no problem or technical reason why you "can't" do it.

Just turn your bike upside down while putting your shoes on, getting ready, etc. so that the fluid runs back and lubes all-round before you start riding (if the bike has been standing for a long time).

Fine just as long as nothing hits anything with the shock switched the other way, swop it around and let all the air out and cycle the shock a few times to make sure it's all clear. Also be careful of introducing places where you can pinch your fingers etc between the shock/lockout switch and frame. Few things worse than getting a nail pinched at speed whilst trying to fumble the lockout...

It's preferable to have the seal facing downwards, that way it'll always be lubed and will last longer. Makes zero difference to anything else besides frame clearance.

On the spark it sits pretty close to horizontal anyway, so will basically make no difference at all. Except you can get a bigger bottle in.
