Which reminded me of the Ultimate F-u to Armstrong. . The day contador attacked him when they both rode for astana.. aaah they tried to make Bert's TDF as difficult as possible, even leaving him at the hotel forcing him to find his own way to the start ot the ITT.

Yip, by that stage Contador had already won 3 grand tours and was a legitimate patron of the peloton, while LA had been away a few years and was coming out of retirement. So AC didn't need to bow down to him in any way. LA thought he could just stroll back into his old role, but forgot that time had marched on without him. So what he and Bruyneel did to AC makes it even more inexcusable. No honour/respect there, just bullies. And that's where the difference lies.

This old-school Euro tradition of 'respect' is also reserved for the jerseys, which is why we often talk about 'respect for the leaders jersey'. When you are wearing it, you need to honour it. That's what Spartacus and Martin did this year - they got back up and finished the stage even though they were badly injured because they had to honour more than a hundred years of tradition, and the names of the legends who had worn that jersey before them. The whole of Quickstep were around Martin as they pushed him across the line. A mark of respect for the man (multiple world champion) just as much as it was for the jersey itself.

And respect for 'the patron' and 'the jersey' can also be seen when Astana attacked AC on the Motirolo in the Giro this year when he had that mechanical. We saw riders from rival teams spontaneously riding for AC up that climb, each one pacing him as much as they could to get him back to the front. No-one asked them to do it, it was just an automatic thing.

Imagine how worried Paolini gets about his stash when this guy comes around for a drink.

That is the worst comparison I have ever read. You CAN see Froomes times up the hill, just like you can see Gatlins times over a set distance.

Absolutely. The fact that he uses a "dope tainted" sprinter for his comparison is probably more indicative of what his on about.
