Does anyone know where I can get a dt swiss lockring removal tool locally?

I can only find on eBay, and with the current state of our postal system I'm not taking any risks.

Wanting to DIY a bearing replacement but need to get the tool so that I can remove the drive side bearing.

Tool looks like this:

Hub is a DT 142+ from a Roval wheelset, same as DT Swiss 240s

do you want to remove the disc brake lockring?

a cassette tool works on mine e.g. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/icetoolz-cassette-tool

for the front (thru axle) the BB cup removal tool works e.g. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/icetoolz-hollowtech-adapter-tool-11f2

This is the last part of the freewheel body that screws into the hub, DT swiss has their own proprietary tool to remove it. Heres what it looks like in the wheel.

I have found one locally, but they will only have stock next month, and its R1000 for a socket!!!

For now I guess I will have to find my nearest specialized dealer and pay them a few bob to loosen it. I'm getting the jitters from not riding....

Your LBS can order from Probike. They're not cheap though.

Thats the one I found.... Probike (Now Scott)... R1000, so yes, definitely not cheap.

I'm hoping to find a lbs to loosen it for me today in the east rand. Specialized really needs an agent on this side of the world.

They make them that expensive so that you dont service it yourself, and if you buy it they make a small fortune...rip off if you ask me....

If you don't come right I have one you can use (north Jhb).

Thank you for your generosity David, I will definitely keep that in mind if I can't come right.

It's crazy! The new bearings should last me a while, so I have some time to source an alternative. I can get them for a few hundred bucks off eBay.

That tool doesnt look like it takes more work or material than some of your bb, crank and cassette tools...but its 5 to 10 times more expensive...shocking.

You can probably have one made by a engineering company for less...

Nope I have been down that road...cost quoted was R1000 as well...and as for it being more expensive than a BB tool, this is a much more specific tool i.e. not mass produced to the same level, therefore the higher costs.

You can have that tool laser profiled from 2mm stainless, just add standard 1/2 inch drive hole to the centre and use your Gedore rachet.   Less than 100 Randelas.

When you do it, have them make 10 or so, you can sell them in the classifieds section, that way you can cover the cost of the one you keep yourself.
