African cycle adventuring invite

Hi there,

I'm sending out invite to anyone who is interested in cycling from Richards Bay to Lilongwe (Malawi).

This will be my second long distance ride following the first which was a ride that took me from Cape Town to Kosi Bay (2235km over 47 days) in 2012/2013

I'm planning on leaving Richards Bay around the 28th December (possibly sooner) and flying back home to CT from Lilongwe no later than the 8 February 2015. this is 43 days on the road.

The route I've had my eyes on will go from Richards bay through Swaziland, back into SA and onto Zimbabwe. North through Zim, through a small portion of Mozambique before entering into Malawi. This looks at being about 2600km.

A little bit about myself, I'm a 21 year old UCT student doing a Bsc. I'm not actually that crazy about cycling but its the best way to get around especially if its doing it the hard way. I'm a very easy going, mellow but focused guy and obviously have a thing for long adventurous journeys. I'm more than happy to be doing this ride alone but some company is always nice and probably a little bit safer doing it in a pair or a party.

If this sparks interest, excitement and a burning desire in you let's talk.

Awesome, enjoy it. Missus and I did Lilongwe down to Cape Town in '93. After Zim we went Botswana and the Nam, then down the west coast. About 6 months if I remember correctly, was part of a longer tour.

Would love to dust off the old Claud Butler and join in on this, but, alas................work.

Have a blast!

if I really wanted to do this i would ask for extended leave i.e. Go into a minus, this is entirely at managers & HR's discretion, alternatively a week of unpaid leave, but alas even if i got around the leave the family will not allow that nice for students

I did some of this ride years back. Well a slightly different route. Came down from Malawi straight into Moz and to Tete. Then on the coastal road to Maputo.

It was hot.

Oh and still a lot of landmines then. I guess that been mostly cleared up
