Never delete, mark as sold...here is why

1.If you delete it, the sale never happened so you loose all comments and reference to it

2.The trading points system uses it as reference

3.Provides other buyers and sellers a price point for goods

I agree, its nice to have the reference for buyer ratings.

Marking as sold is much better than deleting.

Having recently purchased through the classifieds, I would also like to add that people should consider their contact details a little better. If you are the type of person who doens't regularly check your email, please add a telephone number. Also, it's polite to actually answer people when they enquire as to whether your item is still available.

Mark the title sold. This way people don't load the ad then find it sold. After a few days close the ad. That way it doesn't show up in current ads. Delete it some time thereafter at your leisure.

The argument that you leave it up for price reference is a bit skewed as the final sale price is negotiated often and could have also been listed below fair market value.

Despite this discussion, most less regular hubbers will carry on doing what ever that feel like in the classified section, so my request to admin is to introduce a system than mails a person once a week asking them if the ad is still current, or click 'delete' to remove out something like that. Or another option it lists for only a week unless you click 'extend for a week'. Or some similar concept

This will make it easier for lazy people to remove ads than to put up with a mail every week and also create an environment where most ads are likely to be current and therefore a better user/buyer experience. The benefit for admin is less wasted traffic where may people view an item already sold

Ads expire

They do indeed. After a month. Often a decent item is gone in the 1st few days, the seller doesn't bother to update/close that ad and people waste time looking at for the remaining 3 weeks or more.
