Loved that oke.Not scared to push a pedal.See you at Serengeti

I sat second wheel for that whole hill. I tried to get past for a pull but he would just accelerate. He REALLY wanted the training.

Some hard racing mixed with negative racing in the VA bunch and there were some serious contenders for the "VA hide and seek champion".

There were two guys from Cycle Lab that not only sat-up everytime they got anywhere near the front, but they would roll through in a echelon and brake when they got near the front to prevent them having to do any work, What a laugh!

Anyhow, great race as always! Its a pity the 947 can't use some of these scenic roads.

Talking about the Red Lab shirt dude?

That pace line was incredible, that first hour the guys worked so well together until we caught those elites and the youngsters. It was the hardest I have ever had to work.

But I must say, some people really do need to understand that when you get to the front, don't surge!

Was holding so nicely until I made a rookie mistake. I dropped to the back of the group just before the decent into the cradle to quickly eat, anticipating a few surges on those bumps, only to get some young guys between me and the last VA wheel and got gapped on the downhill, tried to TT back onto the bunch for that whole downhill, to no avail.... Rode 30km alone and in shame :(

Edit: saw a few guys with 100km EL and FL numbers in the cradle, when I asked them how they got there so quick, they said they decided to do the 55km, but clearly started with 100km guys, so if some results look dodgy....

Any idea of photos of the day? Saw a few cameras next to the rode.

I also saw several photographers but cant find any pictures online?

Check that your spokes are all ok?

Any bearing play on the hub? Maybe try temporary balancing your wheel and see if it goes away? I presume you were riding your carbon wheels?

Checked spokes on the road and at home and they all good... also no free play on the hub either. Yup was on my Carbon wheels, still under two year warranty so will take them in to get checked out and see if they can find any problems

I thought there was an extra ordinary high number of guys with punctures in the Berg an Dal, anyone else think the same?

I certainly did.

In fact, I was one of the victims.

So I paid careful attention to the okes stuck on the side of the road. Counted 14. That was just in my space of time to do the lap.

Do you have any form of slime in your tyres/tubes? Maybe a weight of it lodged somewhere?

Don't have slime either but I am also thinking a weight issue, so will take off the tyre this evening and see what happens when I spin the wheel then.

I enjoyed this race more than the 94.7.  It is much prettier and nicer than the big race.  I only had a problem with my foot pump the night before and could not get the ideal pressure into my tyres so I was riding on 40/50 bars which was not ideal, probably why I felt fatigued after the race.  I could not believe the development around that part of Gauteng - a McDonald’s and Pick n Pay centre every 3 km’s.  Very frustrating to see so many cars on the road before 8am in areas I thought were basically the “boonies”.  First time I rode around the Craddle, the demarcated area for cyclists was quite nice.  How long is the “track” in each direction?  A pity it is so far from Sandton.

You best best for future such problems is to find someone (ever one of the pro teams cars) at the start and ask for a pump. Someone is bound to have.

The Cradle is great for cycling and fairly easy to reach from Sandton.

There are two loops there of around 50km and 35km if memory serves me correct.

I punctured top of Krugersdorp, never recovered, mate of mine stopped about min later just 40m back. Another colleague got a flat at the Spaza shop

Let's say I was more then a little grumpy about this. Nice to have bigger VA groups and more competition, but not so nice when we could have caught the break if more guys were willing to pace going through the cradle.... and then the same guys that sat and sucked wheel all race long were only too happy to jump over you at the finish line. Pat yourselves on the backs boys, you managed 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th overall.
