Hi All

I just want to say hats off to the bike marshalls. Everytime they saw a big, oncoming truck approaching they made it explicitly clear for them to slow down.

This race just ticks all the boxes for a brilliant event.

Communication 10/10

Race Day Organisation: 10/10

Parking and access to the venue: 9/10  (came from N12 onto Snake road, not  sure about other routes in)

Safety: 8/10 (Only because there was no full road closure) ;P

Fun Factor: 8/10 - family can have a lekka jol at the casino after the race. Gave it a 8 because I'm not sure what bands were playing on the main stage.

Briliant job, Gerald and team.

Thanks - would love it too if we could make safety a 10 (full road closure).

Is there some sort off official rating system for Races???

That way one knows if an event is truly 5 Star and a MUST DO  ?

bicycling.co.za used to do it - not sure if they still do.

Do you know if you had to be at the prize giving to win the lucky draw or would they contact the winner if they weren't there???

I couldn't stay for long afterwards but really wanted to win  :w00t:

Our goal for 2015 was IMPROVED SAFETY, not forgetting all the other important points.

Without disclosing any details, we had 7 incidents where the cyclists couldn't finish (some of the partners stayed with them and also didn't finish).

Another 18 were treated for abrasions, nausea or bee stings at the medical facility at the finish, after they had finished.

I was told that one person was admitted to hospital, but it doesn't show on the official medical report (only one advised to go to hospital to for stitches).

Ideally it would be nice to have an incident-free race, but what are the chances?

The main prize was available for everyone, and was drawn on Saturday afternoon at Tour de Frans Cycles. We announced the winner at the start - think he was in VC.

For all the other lucky draw prizes, it was a case of "be there or lose out".

The other prizes announced at the start were for the Charity Draw (R10 per entry, and added to the entry fee at online entry stage, or late entries).

Although I really enjoyed the race until I crashed... I think it was my last Macsteel race. Started in the DL group and the bunch got massive really quickly. Saw some CL riders in there as well. Long story short... The guy riding in front of me clipped the handlebars of his neighbor at 40km mark and a lot of the DL group riders was part of an awful crash. Lost the group so decided to finish the race riding solo but my arm got 8 stiches and I'm one very sore lady today. But thanx for a well organised race! Can't complain about that.

Ouch, sorry to hear, real hard lines.

Where in DL did this happen ?

I know we caught some CL guys quick but I was under the impression the bunch had split numerous times .

C bunch was ridiculous slow.. and dangerous .. that's why i went to the front .No surprise that there was an early split.  If i'm ever seeded in C again I swear I will rather skip the race .

Happy recovery, Crashes are never pleasant.

I was also part of a split but the bunch caught up with us again. Decided to hang in closer to the back and that was when the crash happened. Around the 43km mark. Real bad one. One guy looked like he broke an ankle and waited for the ambulance. Felt for another lady that also looked real bad. I was just glad that my bike is fine! :-)

Recently someone told my wife after a crash, there are 2 types of cyclists, ones that have fallen and the others that must still fall, recover soon and see you at the next event.

Hey J

Really sorry about your crash. But don't let that stop you from doing this awesome race again. I think the issue here was the wind. As soon as the groups hit a headwind, the front of the group slows down dramatically and the concertina effect gets the back of the group running into each other.

Heal up soon and get back in the group.
