There were quite a few Giant bikes in the 1200 plus riders. sponsored or not. If their marketing department are asleep and cannot sponsor a team in the Epic, well then, thats their own stupidity.

So why is it stupid? Giant sells loads of bikes because they build good quality bikes and sell them at good prices and they've been doing it successfully for a very long time. Don't think they need business lessons from any of us to be honest... Same reason that you don't see Toyota featuring in F1 or racing LeMans.

I didn't see any 650 beasts at the epic :whistling:

if the ABSA Cape Epic went through The Spruit, you will.

Can someone conclusively prove to me that Specialized bikes are "overpriced" compared to other popular brands?

And do me a favour and don't compare an S-Works with a Giant Trance aliminium or Silverback.

They have a whole range you know.

Oh but Toyota tries their hand at F1. With basically an unlimited budget. They were just clueless.

They also tried Le mans and failed horribly. They can however build taxis, rollovers, ag I mean fortuners, and Hilux bakkies. Which is great for taxi owners, becuase your 3 litre Hilux engine, makes a great taxi engine. Instead of 16 passengers in the quantum, they fit your 3 litre Hilux motor, squeeeze in 30 people, and tow a trailer with only one wheel.

They could sell even more. Like Spez. ;)

Dude, no point in having a constructive debate with you because you are just one of those "I have to be right all the time guys". The point was not whether or not Toyota tried F1, the point is that they don't need to have a F1 podium contender to sell a million + cars every year. They sell 1 million + cars a year because they are competitively priced and good quality.

They actually sell 10 million cars a year. Currently getting a hiding from vw worldwide. Losing their crown.

You do realise that Toyota are the World Endurance Championship champions in 2014...

Yes they failed to win Le Mans but they had a faster hybrid than Audi and Porsche.

They were also World rally champions at one point. Sure they failed at F1 but that's not uncommon since you can't run an F1 team by committee.

Irrespective of those failures they are still the number 2 car manufacturer in the world. Even the #1 manufacturer does not participate in F1.

But the Hilux is retardedly overpriced compared to the Ranger...I don't care that the Hilux has a reputation longer than I can remember. I don't care that most mechanics have never seen te inside of a Hilux because they don't break. No! It's more expensive than a Ranger and Mahindra so screw Toyota!!!!

Ja ja, they also produced Twin cams and rsi's once. No the top of the range Toyota is a 1.4 diesel.

Audi are dominating Le mans and Vw are dominating rally at the moment. Toyota know how to make the same product seem better by adding some chrome and stickers. Legend 40, Brakpan 45, Dakar Edition, Heritage edition, all exactly the same bakkie that you could buy in 2004, yes thats right.  You can still buy that same bakkie today, for 3 times the price. In 2004 you could buy a new Golf 4. We are on Golf 7 allready. :D

Now, lets go back to hating Spaz.

The point is that they tried and failed. Its not easy to crack it at the top. The difference is that we can ride the bikes that the Epic winners rode. I can't go out and buy Lewis Hamiltons winning car or even anything remotely similar, even if I had the cash. Giant sees fit to sponsor a pro continental team, but can't seem to get their $h1t together to get representation at the Epic. They do so well with the Liv brand at XC, now Spesh came and dominated the worlds most televised mtb event with their Era. Someone at Giant is missing a trick or 2. I predict that the growth in mtb in the next 5 years will be in alternative markets like the ladies and juniors markets. Perhaps the SA market is not attractive enough, or perhaps there are enough 'Toyota' riders out there to keep them going. Perhaps if they ditched the agency business model and had direct representation in SA things will start to happen for them.

Far off the mark.

Worlds most televised event? Maybe But we can't prove that claim. 18min of highlights every night vs every UCI XCO event live.....you do the math.

The epic is hype. Spez bikes are hype. Cheaply produced (lowest retail cost of all the brands whichis why retailer like them - they can make really good money by putting you on one).

if your life is hype then the brand and event are right up your alley
