NixM Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 So I emailed a friend, who rode the Stillbaai MTB race with me last year, to tell him enteries are open for this year does he want to do it. This was his response: "I'm beginning to think that mountain biking is a lot like childbirth.... Most of the time you are on your back covered in blood surrounded by idiots shouting encouragement while wearing a ridiculous outfit. Your mental and physical being is stretched to its limits. And after all the anguish, what have you got to show for it? Nothing... except for a perineal tear and a small useless "prize" that clings around your neck and chest. You smell funny and look like crap. You swear an oath that you will NEVER do it again. With time the memory of this ordeal fades and you lower your defences. People will start to persuade you that it wasn't so bad and that you should "have another go". With their serpent tongues they spit forth lies that may seem enticing at first. They make you believe that it is actually a wonderful spiritual event and you begin to question your previous reservations. I'm here to remind you of the past. Yes it WAS a spiritual event - I saw the devil... Never forget.... " That ride was 40km of fun then it went very pear shaped: The last 25+ km was soft sand, swearing and only finishing after prize giving after pushing for almost 4 hours. He is correct ....Never forget....
