Finished, and was finished. My better half rode with a SS and the whole family had fun. Next year I will prepare. Not a good ride if you have not done any road riding for a whole. I prefer is short, flat and in circles. Hills and wind is for the birds. LOL.

Damn the beer afterward, once riding back from the finish never tasted that good!

I came very close... my skinny wheeled bike morphed into a coffee grinder as I hit the M1. The sound coming from the Cranks / BB was horrendous! Thought the frame was going to fall apart. Limped up the M1, and luckily spotted a gazebo behind the Waterpoint @ Joe Slovo, that was being run by Kayalami Cycles, based in Alberton. Out came the 16mm Allen Key, and I was back on the bike, after a patient wait. PB was out the window, but I am always amazed & inspired by the people this race attracts. Good day out on a silent bike... :w00t:

Similar scenario except my headset came loose up the first M1 climb and WALKED to that same gazebo, a nice 7kms or so... but did manage to fix it and finish... 4h29 [emoji17]

Border 1000 - DNS

Stutterheim to East London, 46 - 60 km/h wind predicted, I had a lovely lie-in

Wus, it wasn't so bad :whistling: ,

that wind and the temp, was 10deg at my place, hectic. The farmers rode in Thomas on Sat, I froze.

We drinking beers next Sat at Kwelera to Kei. Think I'll have to take my old Cadac backpack, more space for liquid refreshments

DNF here. but then that was never the plan. ride to the start, booze cruise back to witkoppen.

1st beer was at St john's and It was downhill from there.

we were chatting yesterday between all of us we knew very few mates actually going for time most were doing support/charity/booz cruise, maybe next year everyone will be hungry for good times again, i know im doing it the same way next year, maybe earpie and co have the best way, hit it hard first lap, booz cruise second lap
