ditto! I do the same... mostly to 80's!! :thumbup:

No 80's on my playlist.

I have a couple of hour and two hour long trance podcasts on my phone. Nice constant brainless music to keep the focus on pedalling and the trail.

Riding with earphones are much more dangerous imo than riding without a helmet... so to me all of those "natural selection" comments on the 'where's your helmet' threads come to mind when i see someone riding with earphones.

Cycling races should promote the practice that they have in triathlon events where earphones and littering result in an immediate DQ and some form of a ban. Should also promote the idea of other riders reporting those who litter and do dumb stuff. Douchbag in 94.7 chucked a gu sachet into the bushes on homestead rigt in front of me

As stated before:

(3) A person may not ride a pedal cycle on a public road—

(a) on the right-hand side of a motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction, except when passing that motor vehicle or turning right at

an intersection;

(b) abreast of another cyclist proceeding in the same direction, except when passing that cyclist;

© while wearing a headset, headphones or any listening device other than a hearing aid;

Pulse.  Did read that. But answer the question.  The reason I assume why it is considered so dangerous to cycle with headphones is that you might not be aware of your surroundings.  So that is why I am asking the question.  Should hearing impaired people be allowed to cycle in races or not.   Simple question.

But you are allowed to listen to your music in your car so loud that the cars next to you bounce around?

Possibly hearing impaired people are somewhat more aware of their surroundings than a person getting 'carried away' by loud music?

Personally if I am riding on the road I like to be able to see & hear everything going on around me and on the mountain I just love the sounds of nature and the tyres gripping etc.

I stopped using earphones in races, agree it puts yourselfes and others at risk, especially in a tight bunch. I will ride with one earphone (left) when training alone, i wont fiddle with it while riding. Music never loud.

Respect others viwes on this. Whilst not trying to justify, playing radio in a car drivers are often less aware of surroundings than say one earphone on low volume.

Simple answer: Yes

Now that you stayed the rule.

Please justify the logic?

It is clearly not about safety. Because then they would ban car radios. So why was this law put in place at the se time as the 1m rule???

I think it should just be banned outright while riding a bike.  It is distracting and you have Zero idea what is going on around you.  This should also be applied to IPOD ZOMBIES walking or running around with that stuff in their ears.  No matter how hard you shout or ring your bike bell on the trail they won't hear you, and then they act all indignant when they are frightened out of their mind by a biker passing.

Get that s*&t out of your ears and enjoy the sound of nature.

I do agree that ipod zombies are a safety hazard- they dont hear ou bike approaching even if you freewheel to make a clear impression. I've also noticed with the xo shifters, freewheel +go up 2 gears and down 2 gears in worst cases and seldom have people not hearing.

as for the "enjoy the sound of nature"... unless you are in the thick of a trail, the sound of nature in jhb is cussing and hooting.

That is why some people ride Shimano.  To preserve the peace and quiet in nature. :clap:

This post sounds (pun intended) like a poorly placed marketing punt.

I normally respond best to "Passing right", or "sorry, mind if I pass" etc.  your hub or gearshifts as no bearing on me letting you pass.
