milky4130 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Oh dear looks like Hannele & Patric got to the N12 & decided to turn around together before getting to the town of Victoria West, where as Rafeeq proceeded onto the R63 to rejoin the route.
BenGraham Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Wow this situation with going so far off route and then having to decide to either turn around and ride back to where you went off route and finish properly or to just reconnect to the route is hectic. Interesting to see that the riders didn't all take the same decision. Must've been a tough conversation in the dark in the middle of nowhere. This is a serious test for these riders. They effectively just added like 150km to their race; madness.
BenGraham Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 The Big question for me is this is Chris van Zyl stuck with a mechanical or is he working some crazy strategy. At present it looks like his race is basically done because he hasn't moved in hours but perhaps he is sleeping and fully intends to get up and do the rest of the race in a single epic push and catch up. Either there's a problem or he is crazy like a fox. Grant managed to blast right through to the front from quite far back in the field. It still seems this is anyone's race. Grief I really need to get to work. Will check in again at 9am I think.
Fire Engine Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 This is great ,I'm really enjoying tracking these crazies .These folks have a mental toughness that most couldn't comprehend .I find myself waking up in the middle of the night checking up on progress.

Is this a designated sleep zone or can one only sleep in race villages? Edit: Just read on the website, designated rest zones are at the race villages. So are these people just showing up at random houses and sleeping/stopping there?
