What gear ratios are ideal for cx?

38/46 is traditionally used with many 1x setups coming out now.

Edit: didn't see rocks reply.

This however is based on pure CX. For what most of these bikes are used for here is say a compact road crank with 11/32 cassette is a good setup.

I find my compact crank with 11/28 just fine.

Awesome, so basically similar to road bike gears

Not really. Kind of mid way between MTB and road.

As I said though for general gravel grinding, a compact road setup will suffice. Maybe with a slightly wider ratio cassette.

Hmm, I love the idea of that. So what size cassette?

I run a 11/28 with a compact crank.

IMO anything from a 11/28 to 11/32 will work nicely with a compact crank.

Alternatively go 1x with a wider ratio 11/40 or something similar.

How's your build coming along?

Hey Look,

Coming along nicely.

Decided to build it up myself. So far i have fitted the front brake, tonight is hte rear brake and then the gears. having a 2 year old at home makes things a little tricky. :)

But hopefully by the weekend, it will be up and running.

Looking forward to seeing your finished bike and hearing some feedback on the frame, as the London frame is on my shopping list

throwback thursday, probably my favourite bike I ever owned.

This was one of the first bike build 'stories' I followed on TheHub...

that bike helped me though a tough (albeit voluntary) unemployed period of my life.......

I also remember the morning after hearing that Burry Stander had died, I just  went out on the road and pedaled for what felt like the entire day.

Smashing a couple laps of koeberg with Buckshot on his SS cross bike and then hearing a friend got diagnosed with cancer on the drive home. She kicked it's arse though.

Getting my first puncture at the Argus (unlucky 13th - should not have fitted road tyres)

so many memories.

I once bought a bike back from a hubber, may need try to do it again.......
