Aaaaand it finally happened.

A week before the Breede race .     attachicon.gif11095607_890065681059780_6119986530919371235_o.jpg

Glad you got the wound properly seen to.

Now make the owner pay for every cent of your medical bills. If you miss your race because of this, make him pay for that too! No waiting for insurance and such nonsense!  Make him understand he must pay immediately, or else it goes the legal route.

Report the attack to the police to get it on record. And get them to visit the owner to make him understand that the next time his dogs are found outside, they will come and take them away. ("As hy nie wil hoor nie moet he voel!")

Agree 100%. And future medical bills...

Eish Mads! That's not cool! Please please take this thing further - even if it means involving a lawyer. Heal up and hope the scar is the worst legacy you are left with!

Also have a dog in the area where I ride that chases everything - from the bakkie to the truck to me on the bike. I have told the owner I WILL shoot it if it bites me... But it also does make for good sprint training

Just take care..... With all the chasing they train too.   They also get better and one day......  you are going to have an off day....

Sort the dog before that day.

Sorry Mads about your accident waiting to happen.  Same thing with my Mrs bitten by next door's dog, the neighbour coughed for the medical bills and built an enclosure after we said it was last chance time for the dog.

Btw we had a dog that would chase anything on a bicycle, it got so bad we had to take the bike away.

if you are going to be dealing with the owner directly, get everything in writing. Agreements to pay, agreements to better house the dog etc. Its that, or let the city fathers deal with this character. Some ppl only learn the hard way.

Might as well make a provision for a.plastic surgeon too...

The best defense against a dog is to squirt them with your water bottle - usually they back off long enough to get away.

Hope you heal up quick.

Ouch! That looks like a very bad gash? First of all I hope you make a speedy and full recovery!

You were polite with the owners up till now, but now you must make them pay for every expense you suffered due to this attack. If I were in your shoes, I would srongly concider legal advise.

That is quite a sizy rip, heal up soon.

Make sure you do the negotiating/reporting of the dog/owners by the book, ie not arguing or shouting directly at them. If push comes to shove this would probably do very well in the small claims court to recoup your expenses?

I tried to report it to the police.  Who is absolutely clueless what I mean I want to report the case.  They say it is not their jurisdiction.  I told them I just want it on record that the dog bit me as I also phoned them a few months ago reporting the dog being loose.  They eventually gave me a white piece of paper to write my name and address on which I am sure was filed in file 13 before I even left the building.

I have told the owner of the dog is also a policeman.

He agreed to cover any costs but as the doctor explained to me.  Until he does I am liable.

It does look much better on the photo yes.  Before the doctor closed it, I almost fainted every time I looked at my own leg.
