My Dad (rest his good soul) used to tell me "Rather be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt"

There is a few posters on this here thread that could take his advice to heart!!

what are they then?  Not Hovercraft - those things got their own name

Its lots of things, but never an aeroplane

Actually its a coupla1000 pieces bolted together flown by a nut trying to stop it from destroying itself

This thread reminds me of similar a while back. Eldery couple were cycling near Hartebeesport dam when a group of m/cyclists came from behind and nearly took them out, further on he saw them on the side of road and told them how irresponsible they were whereafter they proceeded to assault him and his wife for daring to tell them how to ride.

Good for them I suppose according to some hubbers, the elderly couple should have kept their mouths shut.

To the OP........wow, seriously looking for k@k if you ask me.

Be careful out there, as maybe one day you might just find it

What, so he should rather be quiet to avoid confrontation?

This is exactly what's wrong with this country.

with full knowledge as to the irony of this post, is there not enough [unnecessary] confrontation in this country?

you are confusing confrontation with oppression.

Is that not why we are one flush away from a Zimbabwe? Because we just turn the other cheek. Should we not "try" and do the right thing?

Isn't turning the other cheek the better thing to do?  Its in the bible and all, if that's your thing?

"that's the exactly the problem with this country" haha yes sure ok!

If you quote me, do it properly please.

"This is exactly what's wrong with this country." is what I said.

My last comment in this thread: if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I fully and totally agree with the ban on driving or even being stationary with your phone glued to your ear (hence my BT system). I am a law abiding citizen and I am often disappointed by the wild west attitude of some of my fellow South Africans.

That said, very occasionally I do go a little over the speed limit. It's illegal to do so!

I have jumped a red robot (once) in the dead of night. Also illegal.

Sometimes I don't come to a complete stop at the junction at the top of my road (just crawling over it, mind you, and in a private estate, but still). Breaking the law!

I have overtaken on the left on a highway when I couldn't stand to be behind the slow driver in the right-hand lane. This is contrary to the law.

And probably quite a few other infractions that don't immediately come to mind.

The thing I find interesting is that you also feel entitled to dictate how the driver should respond.  Your action was invasive, and inappropriate.  The guy's actions had not resulted in driving that in any way affected you.  you took it upon yourself to PRESUME that he MAY drive poorly, as he MAY use his mobile when driving (although not at the time you passed), but in fact had not yet.

Hey it's Friday, almost holiday and I don't have a lot of work so lets go

SAGecko & MTB-BFK - the problem with your line of reasoning is that talking on your cellphone while driving is not a harmless minor indescretion like not coming to a full stop at a stop sign. People talking on cellphones cause accidents that kill & maim innocent road users, if you don't believe me the stats are there - google it.

Part of the problem is that people out there are totally ignorant about the dangers of using a cell phone when driving, seeing it as a harmless indescretion . People's behavior will only change if it becomes socially unacceptable to do so, which is why I commend someone like Smimby pointing it out to a motorist.

Swissvan, not to pick on you - but if people wan't to see how far off we are from this being socially unacceptable your post is the perfect example

Honest Friday!!

Hands up all those who have used their cell phones RECENTLY while at the controls of a motor vechile, aircraft or BICYCLE

moi

SAGecko - Interesting how you list all your minor road sins but also make a big point of saying that you obey the cellphone law, which completely sinks your argument because you recognise that talking on your cellphone while driving is in a different category.

I agree with you, and people on cellphones while driving make me nuts, especially the army of chicks finding the need to check Facebook updates, tweet and text while driving - and yes, this is a generalisation.  If, however, like the OP, we want to be self-appointed shamers, and as you say, make this socially unacceptable, don't get pissy when people react.  Of course they are going to.  Don't cry when they do; deliver your message, and HTFU

WOW! So like Tim Osrin another supposedly "respectable" cyclist in our community has to fall from grace like this, btw i also competed with this Mazda tjop in XCO earlier this year.

Edit: just realized it could be a different person with the same name who also rides mtb, unlikely though.

With a bit digging & investigation the reason he could threaten you like this "I also ride a mountain bike and I know your face will find you”  is be cause as he says he knows your face & rides the same trails as you & wait for it belongs to the same club as ours, now should we report him to the committee, will they be able to do anything to him, i don't know, what does the constitution say? (this is homework for you Smimby)

Well should anything happen to you i know who is, I think that's enough to deter him from harming you as who knows he probably responded on this thread already & is reading this as well.
