I wax the hills. Love it! Zoom-zoom all the way up. Advantages of being 60kg. And then watch all my efforts eat dirt as the heavier riders come zapping past me like I'm looking for parking, Worse, they're usually freewheeling while I have to get on the big ring to keep up. So really, it's much of a muchness, six of one and a half a dozen of the other,

Do skinny guys find it easier to climb at a higher cadence up hills? im 93kgs and I climb at an average cadence of 80rpm.

I always end up seeing my friends just ease up the hill while it feels like im grinding.

Power to weight ratio is a relative way of measuring it. My average watt output is 500w on rides. My maximum that was been measured is about 2450 watts. This is far higher than the average rider, but my weight is in excess to make power to weght ratio work for me. I weigh 150kg. If I want to climb like a guy that weighs 100 I will have to up my average watt output to about 750watt. That is impossible. The point is...... I have to loose weight. Power to weight ratio my but. If I lost all the weight and I kept my wattage I would be the best climber in the world!

A bit of a story of my own but for comparison for the OP:

I weigh in at 88kg's and I am pretty short relative to my weight at 1.78m tall, and I am about 8-10kgs over my goal weight.

My best mate weighs in at 60kgs, and is pure muscle on a small, well-built frame.

On short hills I can leave him behind by a long ways with momentum built and giving it stick on the climb, however as soon as that hill becomes longer than I can manage... my buddy will come by and be chilling at the top counting the minutes.

In summary, all the small hills, flats and rollers belong to me and all the long climbs are his by a long ways (not for long though :P will be dropping the kg's this December!!!)

To throw a spanner in the works, my other buddy is a head taller than I am and weighs the same too but - he has super long legs. He kills all of us on the climbs and the sprints...

We just love a Bromance, have you guys set a date yet?

But the time spent climbing hill x will be much longer than the time descending hill x so the heavier rider will have less advantage time.

Why worry, it's all about the dowhills[emoji57]

Hubby keeps on telling me I should be able to clumb really well.. but I reckon climbing is an art form.. one I don't seem to have. [emoji5]

It's a personal preference

It's more economical so to speak to windmill (vs grinding) it as the mossels fatique slower

80 rpm is not too much of a grind

When I started racing elites I was alot heavier than now, my climbing sucked! I climb alot better now but the downfall is I aint as powerful on the flats as I used to be...so it has it advantages and disadvantages. Sad thing the races here has to little climbing to really benefit the climbers hence the reason I really enjoyed the Knysna race this year, loads of climbing!

Reality is you need see any good overweight cyclists so obviously it is better to be skinny for cycling.

About 3 years ago I was weighing around 68kg's, I'm 1.78m tall.. and I was climbing A LOT easier than I am now. Some peeps used to call me a show off.. But then I was sticking to quite strict training regime at the time.

My current weight is 105kg's, and now, I'm finding some hills to be somewhat of a nightmare.

Was this weight gain for a movie ?
