You raise a good point about it.

Like I said in the original post, I am just looking at options and opinions for now - see what having too much free time on my hands does to me... ;)

Sounds like Wyatt has given you some solid advise there. I have both flats (saints) and cleats (shimano PD-M424 with Shimano MT-44 shoes) and 99% of the time ride with cleats. I Have found the flats to be great when riding new places or when I am not sure of what terrain I am going to be riding but for my normal riding, VG, red barn, HK, taba, spruit etc I find cleats to still work great. yes flats do help improve skill levels with the way you ride the bike but if you used to cleats then stick with them.

ok, I am starting to lose my mind.

It was to give a type of riding a name.

Where one rides to the top of a track at there own pace, maybe has a breather at the top, and then rides down the trail which generally will have the starting point at a higher altitude than the finish. Sort of downhill but tamer and where the rider rides up the hill.

So trail / all mountain riding then.

Enduro is the RACE FORMAT built on All Mountain riding. The whole #ENDURO specific thing is a maaaaassive marketing shtick, and it seems as if you've swallowed it.

So as you have made a assumption about me, I will refrain from making one about you.

Rather adding something constructive, I call it as I see it and don't have a problem with something being called different things by different people.

Huh?

The assertion that the 2fo is more suited to enduro than the older 5-10's due to their lower weight was one that you made, not me. The whole enduro specific thing is,as I said, a massive marketing shtick. Enduro riders do not need less durability / lower weight / less grip / whatever than xc / dh / trail or all mountain riders. All WE (as riders) need is something that is comfortable, and works. A little bit of weight loss is not a bad thing, that's for sure. But it does NOT make it enduro specific. That's just BS.

Btw - I don't want to get into a war about this. It's just that I detest the whole enduro specific thing and how it's twisted things into a delineation between trail / all mountain and #ENDURO as if there's a difference, when all #ENDURO is, is a timed format of trail and all mountain riding.

My take on this... i have the Free riders (non vxi) and yes, they are loads lighter than the original impact lows. The impacts are built to be abused, and look like it as well. They've got reinforcement all over the place, and a stronger toe box than the freeriders and mallet / minnaar / maltese falcon do.

I don't know about their relative comfort, but I reckon as the freeriders are a bit lighter then they would be more comfortable if there was a bit more hike a bike involved.

Having said that - weight when pedalling - I don't really see the difference that you'd have between the 2fo / impact / freeriders when you're on the pedals, and the weight difference is equivalent to a sluk of water

To set the record straight (hopefully the last time) the view that the 2FO is more Enduro was not mine. I was quoting someone else and that was his opinion to which I also don't fully agree, but he is entitled to his own opinion whether correct or not.

On the "Enduro" point I agree that it does tend to pertain to the timed racing down the hill as Freeride/All Mountain is not race/time orientated, "maybe" (probably opening another can of worms here) more enjoyment, trick, style orentated.

Maybe we should agree to disagree on some points. This is going nowhere so I am bowing out.

Maybe I should be more clear.

These are the classes of bike

Cross country (hardtail and full susser)

Trail (hardtail and full susser)

All Mountain (mostly full suss but some do long travel all mountain hardtail)

Freeride (full susser)

Downhill (full susser)

Dirt Jump (hardtail and full suss)

No such thing as an Enduro bike.

In Enduro, they use either All Mountain or Trail bikes, and concentrate on the down pointing segments. It is ONLY a race classification. You do not get Enduro goggles, gloves, brakes, frames or forks.

So which ones are the Enduro 5.10's? I've been using my Impacts and those are supposedly DH specific. Maybe that's why I suck so much?
