Iv also seen springbok there before.

One thing I must advise against is being the first on the trails in the morning. I made that mistake once and cleared every single flipping spider web in the reserve. My bike and myself where literately full of spider webs-NOT LEKKER.

There is a nesting pair of long-crested eagles at Modder. I often see both on one ride and love it when they fly overhead, the white on the black wings conspicuous. The male has white leggings, the female brown leggings.

There are fish eagles too - they have been calling a lot lately - and a pair of blue cranes.

I love the owls and jackals at night and have also seen genets. I too got a fright once, riding in the reserve on a quiet morning, when I came flying downhill through trees into a sleeping group of black wildebeest. They scattered fast and I slid into mud.

Such a treat.

The nature reserve will remain untouched

"AECI would keep control of the Modderfontein Reserve, which was not part of the deal"

But it's a great concern that we selling out to the chinese. High possibility that the construction may use imported chinese workers and materials.

My concern is with all the construction going on and subsequent damage to environment, water /waste/noise... Many of the animals will move off especially the birds.

7 yrs ago in midrand along blue hills - beautiful wildlife, now all gone with the developments.

Sadly ppl and nature don't gel :(

Rode at Modderfontein for the first time last Sunday. Completely out of my comfort zone but had an absolute blast. That section by the river with the reeds twice as high as you either side is awesome.

Haha! I had the same experience myself at hakahana last weekend. Had a couple of small spiders playing yo-yo on my handlebars when i stopped.

I just went through that bottom bamboo/reed section.

It felt like high school all over again.

Those branches have grown into the trail so much, that pedalling through there is like getting jacks in the face from the principal.
