Hi guys

I don't know if this subject is covered already but help would be appreciated.

I started serviceing my bikes in Jan this year and my downhillbike is giving me some problems.

The problem is with the BB- I noticed that the bearing in the BB is loose and that I can remove it, but the otherside(drive side) won't move.

The loose bearing in the BB is making an awful sound and it is quite irritating. Now my question is how do I get the bearing back in the BB do that it won't come out again, a lot af pressure doesn't help ( it will go in but with a little tap it is comming out again)

Should you be able to remove the bearing from the BB?

The crankset: Truvativ hussefelt

The BB : Howitzer

Here is some photos.

Ask floatbox. He has a lot of knowledge.

Check that the cup is not damaged or worn due to the bearing moving in the cup if ridden with the bb loose?

Probably need a new BB.

It came loose somehow and should be a press-fit (aka interference fit). The outside of a hard steel bearing shell does not wear down so the housing is prob. kaput if the bearing is loose. My 2c is on a new BB......sorry

Actually I might be wrong above. Looked up the manual on the www. Left cup has a "slip fit" bearing while the right one is fixed. The manual does not say how to pre load the bb bearings other than torqueing the arms on. Try a new bearing to begin with but you may still need a new lh bb cup. When the other side goes you will need a new rh cup anyway.

Do you think I must use loctite to stick the bearing to the cup?

I only use this http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/white-lightning-crystal-grease-tube

Or should I apply a lot of gease inside?

That grease should work fine. If it was originally installed with locktite then you can, but I dont think so..you should see green locktite if any locktite was used. If not, just clean everything and ad grease. Also keeps water out..

Download the bb installation manual. It tells you where to grease

Cool Thanks, no green loctite was used, will give it a good grease and ride with it untill I can find a new BB, then I will use this one as a backup.

Also put some copper grease on the thread before you screw the bb cups back into the bb..keeps water out and elimates creaking noises..if you dont have copper grease you can use a bit of the normal grease..copper grease works better though.
