I have a set of Easton 29" EA90CX rims that are absolutely great, Light ;strong; don't go out of true etc, etc. BUT I have to replace the bearings every 4 to 6 months. Before I'm asked, No I do not use a pressure washer.

My question is where can I get better quality bearings from than the standard Easton ones the cost and PT is really starting to aggravate me!!

Ask your lbs to source Enduro equivalents from Rushsports or if they are not too exotic go to SKF, Bearing Man etc. Good brands are Timken, NSF, SKF

I also found a few references to a bearing spacer upgrade kit on Google....applicable if you have Easton M1 hubs. These originally lacked an internal spacer that rides on the axle between the bearing inner races. Without this spacer the bearings can be excessively loaded axially, thus shortening their life. Nice video showing details. Just check if applicable to your particular hubs

Thanks JXV,  I have had the upgrade done.  Will source from Rushsports and see how they last.

Bin the hubs and replace them with shimano xt or Chris king ISO disc. Easton hubs are rubbish, the bearings are too close together. Any decent lbs can rebuilt the wheels with decent j bend spokes and better hubs

Bearings 2000 in Edenvale close to Makro. Speak to William. Great guy, good service, great pricing. If they dont have what you need he will get it by the following morning, and you can tell him what quality you want.

Just make sure that the bearings have rubber seals and not metal..

Fair comment. Probably cheaper to replace bearings every 6 months until you sell the bike than buy new hubs.....and you can get good hubs without spending quite as much as you'll need for a CK.

I have a Shimano XT hub on my 26er for several years now. It has been virtually fit-and-forget.

I got a Easton EA70, that I broke the rear axle over the holidays and now it's been sitting 2 weeks at the bike shop with no sign of spare parts appearing.

Is it just better to ask them to replace the hub ?

I just installed good brand from bearing man after originals seized up.

ceramic bearings are not made for impact as they shatter very easily,  thus they won't last in any bicycle application.. Might work for your indoor trainer....

Yes> the distributor does not supply spare hubs. So either you wait for all the parts and repeat this exercise next year or replace the hubs. Those R4 hubs are rubbish. Very frustrating and unreliable product. I replaced 4 sets of bearings and two axles before I gave up and replaced the hub. maybe there's something worth learning from in my experience, maybe not
