Rear brake acting up

Hey guys

So I got myself new brakes a few months ago, maybe 3 or so. When I recieved the brakes the rear brake's oil leaked out, I contacted CWC and we agreed on re-bleeding the brake. I did this, and the brake was fine for a few rides then I started noticing that the braking power is almost fading away, a week ago I re-bled the brake again and there was a small difference but now it is gone again, the brake feels like it's actual "bite" is very late and to get a decent amount of braking power I have to pull that lever very far in, if I ride trail I can't feel the brake without having to push the lever right upto the bars.

Yesterday I rode to campus and this is the first time it has happened but when I pulled my rear brake there was litterally nothing, no resistance, the lever went in like it would when you bleed the brake and the caliper's nipple is open, just smooth sailing right up against the bars and no braking whatsoever. And after 3 pulls or so it was back to it's "normal" state. This scares me a little bit.

Can this be a air bubble stuck in there somewhere? Anything I can try and do? Thoughts?

Definitely a bubble. Sounds like there's a leak in the system if you have to bleed them that often. Warranty time.

Maybe not Droo .

If not bled properly then there would be issues .

it could be a few things that cause this, but firstly what type of brakes are they? I see you said you bled the brakes? What brake oil did you use to bleed? I once used the wrong oil - nice lesson - but in short it messed up the seals and required a seal repair and rebleed.

I had the brakes bled at a good trustworthy shop the first time around, then the second time I bled them with a friend but in all honesty I don't think we did it wrong, it's not the hardest of things to do. When we first opened the caliper's nipple there was quite some bubbles coming out, gave me false hope.

The brake set is Deore, didn't use wrong oil or anything like that. I just think there is something up somewhere with this brake, because we bled it and tested it and then we bled it again there was like no bubbles coming out whatsoever, so what can it be?

I am thinking the only viable option at this point in time would be a leak in the system? I could bleed them again and see if there is the same amount of bubbles coming out as last time?

I had an issue on my Avids when after bleeding, which included adjusting the reach screw to get max volume of fluid into the system. The reach screw keeps coming loose and I had to refit locktight on that little grub screw in the lever. Worth a look

What did I do wrong [emoji14] or no sarcasm these days it's hard to tell on the internet.

Nothing wrong.....most people around here misspell brakes as 'breaks'. It annoys the purists[emoji1]

Your new rear Deore brake leaked into its packaging before it even got to you. This is a sign of something being wrong with it.

Have you bled the system at both the lever and caliper as per Shimano service instructions (downloadable) and using the Shimano bleed kit (funnel and bleed blocks) which is inexpensive and available from your lbs?

With rear caliper it helps to remove from frame and hang it vertically down from the lever. This assists moving bubbles up and out. The bleed blocks ensure caliper pistons in correct position for bleeding.

I still think there might be a factory fault somewhere.

Yeah, removed the brake from the frame and held it upright whilst bleeding it, used bleed blocks and all of that fancy stuff.

I will have my LBS take a look at it and have their opinion as well, then after that I will decide what to do.

Did you "prepare" the fluid first - the fluid has air in it when it comes out the bottle.

Fill syringe half with fluid - push all air out of syringe - close syringe with finger - pull on plunger - it will almost seem as it's boiling and you will see bubbles form - now repeat for a few times.

Suggest you go to youtube.
