Gaining power back after heavy weight loss?

Can anyone please direct me to the right "forum" or people that can give me a simple answer to my question. I know a topic like this can have several imputs and things depending on this and that etc.

Im not someone that reads allot (hate reading) and i got no time to do research of my own in this matter.

My question is... i lost just over 12% of my body weight in the last 6 months... i stated to become stronger and stronger as i rode my bike and ate a little less junk....

I got to a point where i can feel no more added benefits and after that i started to feel less powerfull etc. I thought i burned out but im starting to believe a "lost" some mustle in the process and that i have less power (watts) in my legs.

I never done a PPO (peak power output) test so if i do it now i cant compare it to nothing.

So the question is... where to from here? Do i have to up my carbs? I would like to keep it simple and not going into heavy diets etc.

Interesting, as I have lost no weight and feel the same. Upped my carb and protein intake over Christmas and feel rubbish even after all the effort!

How long(months) ago have you done Base training?

I dropped about 8kg in about 2 months with calorie dieet and found out I lost muscle weight as well. Took me about 3 months to get the muscle back and dropped another 3 kg but with a low carb lifestyle in other words Tim Noaks. I limit my carbs now but gaining muscle and loosing fat. Do the test now so that you have a starting point and remember don't work on you power or ftp numbers but power to weight ratio.

i'm not a coach or a nutritionist, but losing power despite training doesn't seem right, even if it is combined with significant weight loss.

I'd imagine that you need to get your diet right (i.e. eat enough/right to keep your body fueled) and also train right.  Perhaps intervals / strength / cross training required?

You need to adapt your training. Do more intervals and lactate threshold excercises.

I started base in August 2014.... and did it till about middle october 2014. Since then i just enjoyed all my rides and did around 4 rides a week (8 - 10 hours a week).

Thing is i do climb better still... but on the flattish club rides i have a hard time hanging onto the pack especially if they hit it hard ... i do hang on but i used to be strong in that field.

I love the lower weight because i feel good and climb better than ever but most of our rides in SA is flat so i feel i went backwards on this...?

Will this definitely help my cause? no that you mentioned it i hardly do intervals if any and my lungs aren't that great from what i know (cant stay in the red for long).

It seems you have a perceived loss of power

So, subjective.

Do you have access to a power meter or wattbike for training?

If not, acquire one for a reliable way to measure your efforts and, from this clarity, raise your performance.

i see i accidently double posted this thread... my PC is weird ...

Huez: I also thought it was subjective but the roads i ride i do all the time and my times on flattish parts is getting worse and worse but on the climbs it improves. Maybe i have more confidence on the climbs i dont know... im sure to find out soon. Looking for a place with wattbike so i can record my power now then off the intervalls and a better carb diet.

Yeah, rider'

The reliability of your perceived sense of power / exertion on those segments of climbs can vary with your freshness levels, the wind, die hitte in die Paarlvallei, your confidence, etcetera and other factors.

Get on a watt bike

That'll be a good measurement
