Why do you ride?

I started cycling because a mate of mine did and it looked awesome... That assumption was pretty much spot on

Now I do hill training after work to relax... Something went wrong in my mind, but I love it! Weekends are reserved for the trails so I can laugh out loud when swooping through the single track and feel like a kid again.

Simply put, I ride because it makes me happy :D

As said before, it makes me feel like a kid all over again!!

When I'm going through a piece of track as quickly as I can, I forget all about anything that could possibly weigh me down (figuratively...) and just can't help smiling!

Life is GOOD!

Beat me to it, haha

To be out doors, breathing the fresh air. I really feel for the people who hit the malls on a Saturday morning.

I needed to find an alternative (and fun) way of staying fit when there wasn't any waves.

If surfing is my one true love, then mountain biking is the mistress that has tempted me.

I love surfing. I always will. But she is not as faithful as mountain biking.

(By faithful I mean favourable weather conditions) Its always cooking on the trails. Always

  • To achieve certain goals in life whether its on the bike or off, to be outdoors and appreciate nature
  • To ride down a nice section of single track
  • To ride hills and try stand up for as long as possible,
  • To be able to ride with friends, chat nonsense and make jokes the whole ride,
  • To have that awesome feeling after riding a rock garden or drop off for the for the first time,
  • To have that feeling when I stand on the podium
  • To spend time with my dad( who got me into cycling) whether its showing him the line on a technical section or grinding up the hill behind him,

But I think the most important one of them all is to have fun :)

Like most hubbers I saw all the negative things this week (made interesting reading)

But I just want all of you to think why it is that all of us are on this forum?

What is it that binds us together?

And then please tell me why do you ride? What made you start?

Mine is easy, I started to ride bicycle because a girl I really liked was into cycling, and I wanted to impress her.

Ended up marring her, and  she is still my training partner and motivation!

Doing the cape town cycle tour 2015 agian!!

(edit grammar)

cause drugs are illegal and messes you up - so I took the next best thing

Because I love the act and freedom of cycling. And as I've discovered in the last month that I've been cycling again, it's the one place in the world I completely forget about work stress, money issues and family pressure...

Just me, the bike, and my screaming legs....

I feel like a child, free.

I hope to ride good again one day and be spoken of as that good rider again.

That 'feeling' that cannot be explained.

Was offered an Argus entry in 2012 just a few weeks before the actual race. Thought I was relatively fit, but hadn't been on a bike for about 24 years. Had no idea about nutrition, no cleats, no clue about pacing myself and no bike(borrowed a 26er for the occasion)................I didn't finish.

It was a huge blow to my ego. A group of friends and I returned in 2013 to set the record straight and the rest is history.

We've done two TransBaviaans and a TransKaroo since then and just love being on our bikes. Good times with good mates!

Commuting home in the rain,,,priceless feeling like a school child

Getting home after a long commute with a mate in the dark, talking about nothing specific, get home stress free ready for the kids with no work drama hanging on your shoulders

AND YOU MUST FINISH THE RIDE TO GET TO THE BEER TENT ;)

Was saying to my Missus last night I think cycling must be like childbirth. When you're going up a hill and your legs are on fire you're thinking 'Never again!' and half an hour after your ride is over you're thinking 'I really feel like going for a ride again...'

Started by riding to school (Bulawayo and Pretoria) then commuting in UK, touring in many places, now just mtb for fun. Group rides or solo, I love to be out on my bike.

The Hub.........provides me with huge entertainment when I am away from home. Great place to build some bike knowledge too.
