Could be an interesting out and back swim from that location

This was where Tri Rock's swim was "supposed" to start last year - but the sea was so crazy we had to move further down the beach and then do a short run to transition...

We started further down the beach where things were shielded but where we came in the surf was CRAZY... ask anyone who did the race - hectic stuff

yebo...swim is my strong discipline and I am an accomplished swimmer but that little section coming out of the sea gave me a couple of pucker moments

Hope Tri Rock still happens - as October in my opinion is just a better date

That being said I fear for Tri Rock Durban

TriRock Durban is happening on 4 October. The race is already approved by the City of Durban.

TriRock tries to offer quite a different experience to the Ironman experience. TriRock will still do well.

I am not so certain - but hope so. I had a couple mates keen on Tri Rock Durban this year - however most of them have opted for IM Durban.

Two events in Durban 2 months apart when just 2 years ago there were none - is silly in my opinion.... More sense if one was at beginning of year and 1 at the end

Agree. You can blame Ironman and TSA for that. Don't forget Midlands Ultra in December.

Yeah I know it can be a bit rough there....I did a 1/2 standard from more or less that area many years ago, the hotel / casino was not even built in those days, I enjoy sea swims but that day I was glad it was only 750 m...quite rough due to exposure to wind. I also heard a rumor at the time that the lead swimmers were being followed by a shark....

The problem with Durban is always going to be the swim, overnight the swell can go from 1ft to 6ft, the only realistic place for them to swim will be uShaka. Really glad to hear TriRock is still on, has an old school feel about it, a little more personal imo, not perfect but you have a great day none the less :).

In the old days ( I wish I did not have to say that  ) the ultra tri's used to start from vetches pier parking (close to were ushaka is now) and then swim across to North / Bay of plenty beach.

lol, that would be an awesome swim, a bit more than 1.9k I would imagine

TriRock is happening 1 November 2015. Confirmed with the organizers.

4 October came from Grant's mouth to my ears yesterday morning. Who told you 1 November?

Minor technicality...most swims the distance is wrong anyway.... :D

Yeah those were ultra tri supposed to be a 3k swim but if you swam straight across a bit shorter :whistling:

The first part was easy flat like a lake but the last part was tricky with some currents and nice waves
