But if you don't ride on the cycle path you could end up under a truck or a car as happened to Adre Erasmus two weeks ago at Woodbridge Island. Just saying...

I think manners from both side are what's called for

Just want to correct you,Andre was riding on the bike path.

He was the second cyclist this year that was involved in an accident while ride on the bike path. Both accidents were 100m from each other.

The regular users of the bike path will further their own interest to educate the casual users and encourage them to become regular users. Rather try and be tolerant to the "Argus Arseholes" and see if you can lead by example and try to increase the pool of commuters. This will assist with awareness, a possible expansion of the bike path network and a safer commute.

I find the "us vs them" attitude rather patronizing and short sighted.

Was he not in the road.....That is where the markings are, not on the cycle lane?

I join and leave that stretch and that section daily .... it is like a war zone.

Towards the end of last year a car blasted through a red light (at that intersection) hitting a motorcyclist, the motorbike took off and then hit a pedestrian.

The motorcyclist and the pedestrian are both dead.

The pedestrian worked across the road at the BP petrol as an attendant, a day or two (can't recall exactly which) his first born came into this world without a father.

Ag no man, I remember the accident well. I was not a witness to it but mates were on their way to me and had to take a detour because of the accident scene. I was not aware the poor guy had an unborn child. Shame. RIP.

Seriously, I stay in Barrington, close to the R27, and I do not exaggerate if I say I hear sirens EACH and EVERY day on that road.

Truly tragic accident. I passed that spot minutes before it happened and there was no real wind to speak of. Must have been a 1:1 000 000 freak accident.

I stand corrected but all the media reports suggest he was not on the bike path, also here on the hub it was understood that on the day he was training in the road specifically. I digress if I am wrong. Still, it is much safer to stay on the cycle lane in this part of town. There are so many better options to go train on than this road. RIP Adre.

Agree, but are they Argus Arseholes or Stravassholes?

well you were the first to call the Argus riders that in this thread and the op reffered to the clear change in attitude of riders come this time of year, which is true.

there is no us vs them either, you brought that up now..... the thread is about having manners on the path.

I find the comments in your post to be rather patronizing.

At the point where he was killed ( there is green painted police marking about 100m CT side of Woodbridge, so I assume this is where it happened) the bike path is about 3 meters from the rode. So how did the truck connect him there?

the road and gutter are still stained from the accident .......... I get cold shivers every time when going past this site.

Ja saw that, horrible. That's why I'm disputing Stringbean's statement that he was on the bike path.

Latest from evidence given from truck driver as well as person in car behind truck and family members give a different story. For those who commute on a regular basis they will know as you come close to the Woodbridge island robots the bike lane splits into 2.That is where there is a kink just after the sub station. The cyclist stayed on the right path where the cycle lane splits.Still on the bike path, not in the road.As was said it was a windy day.The statement from the truck driver said that the cyclist seemed to clip a brach of a tree that was hanging over into the bike path with his bar, slinging him into the road.

Needless to say the very next day the municipality were there to remove the tree and I notice today there is a major clean up and cut back of the trees and bushes that have been encroaching onto the bike path for a while.

Real sad story.
