Half coke / half water

Oros

Game(naartjie taste the best)

And if you are racing...half monster / half water.

And yes I am seriaas as cancer, rhythm is a dancer

Strange enough - I once forgot my normal mix on a ride and rode on Monster (the Green one) and had the best ride of my life. I now regularly ride with monster in one bottle and water in the other - and it works like a bomb!

Enduren rocks. Simple ingredients (no chemical crap), locally made and less expensive than the flashy brands. Nice, neutral taste that is still palatable after hours of racing.

I also think Enduren is great, but all these powders are very expensive for what are cheap ingredients. There is no ingredient list on Eduren, which i think is a bit off, but I reckon it's just Maltodextrin and glucose powders, plus maybe fructose, all of which are about R10 per kg, but sells for over 200.

Alot of these brands are just mixed in someones garage, and there's no control or regulation.

i think Porqui has got it right - Maltodextrin, or even glucose, powder, with a bit of fruit juice and maybe a pinch of salt, is the way to go, maybe a spoon of whey for longer rides and recovery.  And eat some proper food.  Save yourself a lot of money and additives for colour, flavour and preservatives.

But don't listen to me, I like High 5 which is probably the most expensive thing you can get in SA.

I have been doing this for about 3 months now and it works for me.  I use clear bottles so I can judge intake precisely during the ride to avoid sugar high and low.  I've stopped using anything else during races - race as I train - and no surprises.

750ml bottle

5%/vol Fruit juice concentrate for taste - I use Ceres, or Oros or powdered drink in emergencies

10ml of glucose powder - measured with a medicine spoon

pinch of salt

Training rides up to 3 hrs plain water. Over 3 hrs and race day, red grape juice, diluted with water to taste and a pinch of salt to take away the sweet taste and to help with absorption. And I only ever eat bananas. Been doing it for nearly 20 years and it's never let me down. I don't buy into the whole sport nutrition scene because back when I started it didn't exist. Natural is best IMO.

Jinne. I left my normal sauce at home this morning so I stopped and bought a BIG screw top monster, diluted it 50/50 with amanzi and used that. Felt like I had a Russian nuclear power station inside of me. Great Scott.

I am telling you, been preaching the monster gospel for a while but people think I am taking the piss. Its rocket fuel that stuff. I first start noticing it on a magalies out ride from fourways...now that is big day(110km and loads of climbing). Stopped in magalies and had a a russian and chips washed it down with a monster...I was strong like russia the whole day.

The russian and chips repeated so won't do that again, but I replace it with whatever carbs the shop have.

Chelsea bun, fruit cake, doughnuts, nutella hotdogs, biltong sami....choose your poison.

On most races I have settled on High 5. Ordered it from the UK at less 65% so I have a years supply.

Extreme energy, regular energy and recover tubs, with 80 gels of which half have caf.

Also like using naked bars on the bike with some dry work.

Works well for me and keeps me going strong through out the race.
