Sho. Touchy. Anyways, the best chain to use is a new bushingless one with a 1/2" pitch. Shimano, SRAM, KMC, YBN, and a few others make them. Aside from price, weight and shinyness, they're all the same. Take a few spares. Avoid the super light cross drilled extra shiny hollow pin ones because they break easier. Measure it at the end of each stage (with a ruler, not a chain checker) and replace when worn.

Just pack a few spare links and quick links in for the race
