Day 1 of the adventure was 79km not 73km as there was a mixup in the route, so ja, no to the above.

There was no mix-up. Single track got added that lengthened the route for all concerned to 76km. If you did an extra 3km you may have gone wrong somewhere, but the bulk of the field recorded a distance of 76km and so did the ride Stage 1 riders.

Word of warning it is currently damn cold at night so bring another blanket if your sleeping bag is not minus six or whatever. Last night of ride was better than the first thank god. I didnt sleep due to cold and was wearing two jerseys in my sleeping bag.

just shack up with your riding partner ;)

Plenty of riders we spoke to afterwards (and also myself and riding partner included), got 78km+ on stage 1, and we were with bunches of other riders at all times. So unless many, many riders took the same wrong turns through the day, we thought the distance was around 78km.

While I was having dinner in the food hall the MC or someone on stage apologized for the extra distance and explained that a mistake had been made which led to the stage being longer but that they would have it fixed when the "ride" started.

What was said was that extra single track got added. The ride had the exact same trail as us, just minus the 30degree plus heat and dust on the SSW side of the mountain. My ride was 77.3km, so not sure where 79 comes into the equation. post-5386-1446621582,4939.jpg

Look if you took a short cut by "mistake" it's okay, no one really cares so you can stop defending yourself since you aren't even being accused of doing it.

On Strava people recorded distances in a range of 76km - 79km (I also had 79km) for Stage 1

But the point is, we at the adventure got a bit extra for free  ^_^

Take a look at Strava... the readings range between 78km and 76km. The ride guys have the same readings and same segments. If it makes you sleep better thinking that the route was wrong, by all means keep on telling yourself that. The only difference between the days were the conditions.

The ride guys have the same readings and if you use a service like ridewithgps and plot their data files over yours, you'll be surprised that there is basically no variance.

Dude it's okay, no one is going to report you for not riding the all of the race on day 1. The fact that you are posting all this info means that we can't be held accountable if the W2W race office sees it and then calls you in for a chat. That's on you.

WHY THANK YOU! I'm sure that a 30 minute penalty will really teach me a lesson since I'll go from 468th to 475'th.

(by the way... that IS Comic Sans MS if you were wondering)

No worries, bit swak how quickly you ratted out your partner though.
