It presents the wife and as a completely unathletic incompetent and the husband as a complete twat. The emotion felt is more about pity for her relationship.

Who runs like that? Who runs down the middle line of a road? She is portrayed as cartoonish, like the worst overacted slapstick comedy.

Compare it too this, basically the same message:

a mate of mine has completed IM and is training hard to improve on what was already a great time. He was at my place this weekend training for the surf swim... needless to say he is not impressed with the ads... I heard all about them on our road ride... IM take this advertising stuff as seriously as their training!!!

What other people might think or say does not contribute at all to why I train. Not even my wife or child. I never think about it and in my opinion it is daft to do any sport motivated in any degree by what others say or think. The only times I think of my family is with regards to safety and in thankfulness that they support me and give me the time and space to do an IM.

I might be wrong, but the IM soul is to achieve something which you think is (almost) impossible.
