MTB Tubeless leaks at valve

Ok So I have done this many times, changing tyres sealant values the lot.

This one has just got me, it keeps leaking from the valve, I think where it joins the rim, I have tried a new value, I have re taped the rim, overdosed on Sealant and yet it still leaks from the valve, any ideas?

Correct type of valve for the valve hole - shrader/presta?  Some rims require a special type of valve or rubber insert due to shape of rim.

Try cutting a valve from a tube so you have more rubber to create a seal?

Had the same problem recently on a new ZTR flow rim. Changed rim tape, new valve and new stans. Kept on leaking from valve base. Eventually gave up and took it to a LBS for repair at short notice. They had the 25 mm tape the rim needed. I used 21 mm tape rolled twice.

Went back next day to pick it up but they were too full to redo my tubeless. Turns out this last try of mine worked and tyre was still inflated.

So perhaps persistance is what you need to do. Inflate it and ride immediately to get the stans around the rim. It eventually seals. Just make sure the valve screw at the base is tight enough

Had the same problem, after lots of swearing I found the rim tape damaged by the tyre lever so air escaping  into the rim chamber which then leaks through the valve. Cut the damaged rim tape piece out and stuck on a new piece overlap about 20mm problem sorted

Same problem as OP on my back wheel, have done so many of my own special ghetto tubeless conversions before yet it still leaked.

had a Joe's tubeless rim strip laying around that was installed on my bike when new and that totally isolates the rim wall from the air yet still the air comes out the valve???

re-tape

overdose of sealant

new Tyre

tubeless strip

nothing works...

I think that is mostly not the actual leak but that the air tracks through a nipple into the rim and out at the valve. I have spent many hours swearing at the wheels before coming to this conclusion. I have mostly solved the problem by new (excessive?) re-taping.

If its not sealing you not using enough sealant!

Find that YouTube stans video on how to shake your wheel to spread the sealant everywhere. Overdose properly on sealant, pump your tyres with air to their max allowable pressure, shake like the stans video and then leave to stand for half a day/overnight etc. Repeat as needed, some tubeless setups are biatches to seal no matter what you do but if you repeat the steps enough any setup will eventually seal. A tyre a while back took about 5 pump up and shake sessions but once they sealed and held the pressure, that was it done.

What rim?

No tape issues since switching to Gorilla Tape. Used to use Stan's Yellow Tape. The Gorilla tape is also easier to apply right.

where did you buy this? almost no one stocks it in SA except for a guy in CPT?

Hi guys,

I am lucky and have never realy had a problem ( touch wood ), but recently had a wheel that started leaking after a few months.

Did all the normal things and eventually found that the Stans tape had punctured on a spoke "hole". This from the pressure of the air in the tube on the tape. It forms dimples on the holes. My LBO said that I must first put a strip of insulation tape to protect the Stans tape. All ok now.

Regards

Sarge.

Thanks Guys

I got it, leak sealed,

Basically just pumped in more sealant and bounced it around that the value to get it into the value and valve cavity, simply enough after the fact.

Strange. Just about every LBS in Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp stocks it. If we can get it here in the gramadoelas, it should be easy to find a stockist in Gauteng.
