Gerald, do you know if last Sundays CCMC race will count as a seeding event for this race?

Will have to see if the results appear on the PPA website like 2013 and 2014.

If Yes, and it's one of the 3 best indicies, then it's possible - don't quote me. I still don't know if it is used or not.

Will have to wait for the next update on the PPA website (after they're done with the CTCT).

OK I've decided to enter for a laugh. I'm far away from racing fitness, but reminded myself that shouldn't stop me from going out there and having fun.

April is an awesome time of year to be riding a bike in DBN, and once we've got the big hill out the way, the course is super fast and smooth (brand new tarmac the whole way - blacktop perfection), so I know I'd be pissed off if I missed this one.

Scott, looks like you might be towing me around the course this year  ;) .

Hey guys,

It looks like I will be there this year for my second ride. Last year I got 822m on Endomondo and 1075m on Strava so I would guys the climbing is somewhere in between those two.

I managed a 3h20 last year and hoping to at least do the same this year if the wind doesn't blow!

Ha Ha very funny. There is a reason you are an A batch rider and i'm not. Seriously though, glad you doing it for the reason we all started out cycling in the first place, the fun of it.

i think many people are going to underestimate the little climb to Sibaya and on the return leg just outside Umhlanga. For us non A batch riders I see the bunches exploding on these two as the pace will be very high, what do you think?

Haha, I remember getting dropped on a little climb in Dbn north. At first it didn't even look like a hill but the bunch was just too fast and from there it was a solo ride all the way to the circle and then halfway back to the stadium until the next bunch came past and swept me along to the finish.

Same happened to me last year also a 3:21 time, was seeded with A batch they dropped me like a rock on the M7 climb.....

On the return leg, the main section where people try and make a break for it is up that long drag past Umdloti after crossing the lagoon bridge.

I'm looking to ride to the start, race in VB, and ride back to Pinetown (via M19). A good 145Km training ride in awesome *late summer weather. Might ride around the block twice to take the final odo-reading to >150Km.

*Durban only has 3 seasons:

early summer, summer and late summer - or - before summer, summer and after summer

Missed last year but really enjoyed my first one the year before.  If memory serves me the M7 is not too bad as there are a couple of flatter spots where you can grab a breath (and coming from altitude helps!)  I was able to dish out a bit of pain before Umhlanga but what really sticks in my mind is the descent down from Pinetown.  Ear popping stuff!  Will be there this year.

From Otto Volek to the N2 Bridge is about 10km and a decent of round 350m. I won't be wheel sucking on this decent. rather have clear air in front of me thank you very much.

EDIT: Tombeej, how far are they with the road works under the N2 Bridge?

It's quite hilarious watching the locals ride in their "winter" gear on, while us Vaalies have short sleeves on.

If it were possible I would like to stay in Durban from April - September, then in the WP from October - March.

Sitting behind someone on the descent, you get a nice slipstream and then slingshot passed them at 100+ km/h - awesome feeling.
