That piece of road is dangerous at present with the road works happening there and the section of newly tarred road which has no painted lines. I rode there on Saturday am and people were driving like a-holes. Speeding and driving as if two lanes exist was the order of the day. Personally I am done with the Peninsula cycles apart from the upcoming cycle tour. After that it's back to the single track for. I am about to go collect my Tygerberg MTB bike board as I type this.

No more tar!

Actually, if they wanted my attendance on Saturday according to the mail sent out to members the new jersey is required...So, in MY PERSONAL OPINION, this is just a thinly veiled marketing ploy to sell jerseys by using misfortune as the vehicle. If they TRULY wanted cyclists to unite around safety issues, my flippen jersey would make no difference.

Karl, without trying to derail this topic, I think it is important to understand that this weekend's event is the launch of their new stay wider campaign. So lets put this in perspective.

PPA have lobbied and changed the local provincial legislation as a start. They are now looking to take this Nationally. This single effort would likely pave the way for any vehicle accident involving a cyclist to put the initial legal blame on the motorist irrespective of the circumstances around the incident itself. This is the starting point they are looking to make, whilst promoting the campaign to the general public via media channels. They are obviously looking to gather as much unified support for the campaign as they can! It is for this reason they are requesting that people attending PLEASE show up in the campaign shirt. Nothing more sordid than that in any way.

Maybe the PPA can use some of that fund they have and put a permanent marshal or marshals on that part of the road until the road works is completed.

I know there is a bigger picture with legislation changes and awareness, but some sort of immediate action seems necessary at the moment?

Only way to make it safer is to turn it into a stop and go or just close it for cars. :P Encourage the bus or bike etc

I'm hoping the lack of news means it was a really minor incident and therefore not entirely newsworthy!

Anyone able to get any further info perhaps?

Media is quiet on this one....

Editted: Nice work Nick!

Hope the rider recovers quick from the effects of the fall and gets some mediacl checks done on why he passed out in the first place! Can be quite gald that there were no vehicles around him when it happened!!!
