This cuts both ways. Twice this week I have nearly been taken out by guys on MTBs riding on the pavement. Tsk

were you also looking where you were walking ..... countless times I have had to break hard for pedestrians (shared pavements) who walk in a complete haze not taking account of their surroundings.....actually watched two pedestrians walk into eachother the other day.. head on!

Haha, I've seen that too. Both using smartphones. But yes, I was looking where I was going and both okes came up behind me. What do you mean shared pavements? Is it legal for cyclists to ride on pavements?

And good on you for this campaign by the way. Looking forward to reading the response from the company once you have cleared it.

I find the most conscious pedestrians are cyclists too.

Not sure if it is legal to cycle on the payment, but I do it at times when I am out of options, but I am always mindful of pedestrians. The last I need is to hurt someone deu to agressive cycling.

Having said that Awareness is a luxury!

:)

think of where there are demarcated cycle/walkway pavements.

off the top of my head is the pavement leading from the cycle lane to the traffic circle with the Jan van Riebeek statue and the one running all the way up the fan walk from the station to the stadium as an example of shared pavements.

Do these guys look like they give a flying fark about cyclists and their little green lanes?

according to correspondence they do.

give it time to see if they are in the lanes again, but I doubt it they will again. the company did come across as sincere in the end.

I'll check up on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday...

Out of interest, if you were riding in the cycle lane and then had to cycle around a car that was parked in the cycle lane and you then had to to dodge car that was in the road, which ended up with you crashing into the parked car, are you liable for the damage since the car was parked illegally?

It's a valid question as "The State" seems reluctant to prosecute motorists who hit a cyclist if the cyclist was allegedly riding two abreast thereby breaking the law.  Therefore I cannot see how you could find you liable if the car is parked illegally.

Ok, the company has addressed this with their staff and they will not be in the green lane again.

So they changed their initial stance?

Guy on the right seems to be dishing out the "hairy" eyeball.

Just left a friendly message on the answering phone to please stop parking in the lanes.

If you send an SMS to their land line number, the Telkom robo-voice will read it out:

your vehicle C-A-6-4-3-1-6-9 is parked illegally blocking the cycle lane in bree street please move it within 6-0-0 seconds or it will be confiscated

Should get somebody's attention!
