ja, there is new tar from Hillcrest through to kloof. if it hasn't been fixed (last rode it 6 weeks ago) there is a pothole towards the bottom of the straight section down fields hill so try and be in the right hand lane. doesn't look too bad but have had two mates blow tyres and one cracked his rim.

IF it's like this...

then it's okay, a bunny will do just fine.

Nice to see this one again - Blantyre, Malawi by the clock tower roundabout and the bus station.  It got a bit bigger than this so that a bus got stuck in it.

Don't forget to include the wind forecast ;)

Currently Accuweather has the wind @ around 15 - 25 km/h headwind for the inland section of the race.

But Magic Seaweed is giving predictions of a 40 - 50 km/h NE at the beachfront.

So basically it looks like the headwind will start to feel progressively stronger as you get closer to the coast, with a proper tree-bending block headwind to deal with as we drop down the N3 from the Berea into the city. Sounds like it will be one of those winds that you have to pedal downhill just to stop yourself from being blown back up it :).

Wind forecast down in durban on Sunday:

Wind Finder predicts 30 - 40 km/h NE at the beachfront, so slightly less dramatic than Magic Seaweed. Split them down the middle and you have a 40 km/h predicted headwind coming in to DBN.

Not uncommon for us locals who ride here every day (so we're used to it), but still strong enough to be a real obstacle for tired bodies and anyone attempting to break away in the racing bunches.

Looks like the racing snakes will have to wait for the bunch sprint - breaks never succeed in a headwind. The only other way to do it is to split the bunches earlier, say the Drummond, Bothas Hill & those M13 climbs. I expect there to be a lot of attacks there by anyone who is not a sprinter.

so my hopes of a sub 4 will be slowly blown back to Pmb... praying for a nice calm day.

Looks like we aiming at the same finishing times , what group are you starting in? I'm HL at 8:05

Don't wish it was easier. Make sure you are stronger.

Every March, in the Western Cape, people use a phrase "You don't ride a sub3 Argus. Your group does". And that same logic applies.

On the morning, regardless of the weather, work with those around you of similar strength (even even try and hang with those slightly stronger) and earn your sub4.
