Winner of the AL bunch did a 2h34 and had a gap to the chasers which is very impressive as VA's did a 2h34

He's a beast. He did something similar from group B last year. Do you happen to know where he attacked to create that gap?

Enjoyed it quite a bit will hopefully be back next year

AL started guns blazing and we were split going up the first climb, pace was hectic, we formed a group and worked well together up to the end where we caught about 2/3 of the guys that got away.

Ended up with a 2h44 and 30 odd secs almost came down in the last km wheels touching but managed to stay upright!

Haig Gibb is the guy. He's one of the Tri X Multisport guys. They're all elites and top vets and only know how ride one way: together and on the front. Always. They are beasts on a bike (I train with a couple of them every now and then) and always stand out in their black kit.

This year I see they've got new black kit (#Go Until You Throw). When I saw him and Matthew and Green and the others in our start pen I knew what was coming. They're a mix of elites and top vet riders, but because they all like to ride together the top guys in the club often drop back to 'A' so that they can all do their TTT thing together on the front.

You and I were in the same group together. In fact, I must have been shoulder to shoulder with you when you touched wheels on the finishing straight. Have to say, my own life flashed before my eyes when I heard that noise :).

The pace was definitely hotter this year than last.

Even taking into account that this years finish was a little shorter (about 1 - 2 min), here are some comparisons.

Haig Gibb did a 2:44 last year and then a 2:34 this year.

The top 3 in 'A' last year did a 2:47 (all elites). This year the front guys in 'A' besides Haig (almost all of them elites as well) finished in 2:37 with us in the chase group still coming in 3 min faster than last years winner.

This year the winner of VA finished in 2:34. Last year VA's were 8 minutes slower at 2:42.

And with the heat and the head wind, the conditions for me were definitely more difficult than last year.

I'd also argue this year was harder than 2014, but the PPA seem to disagree if you just take the race betas into account.

2014: 1.11

2015: 1.03

I was certain they would at least give it a 1.15. But hey, maybe I would be better served spending more time in the saddle than worrying about the numbers >.>

Shoe, okay... not quite my experience...

I could moan and complain and explain that employing a bunch sprint strategy in an open seeded group is counter productive since you're actually racing the field and not the group, but it'll only fall on deaf Sagan wanna-be ears. But I'm not.

I'll rather just say that I had so much fun racing this race. Doing turns up front, launching attacks, joining attacks, bridging gaps and doing the last big pull to the finish line.

All in all, I laid it out there from start to finish and had a jol.

Just past Camperdown.. Brave move but they were obviously in a different league with regards to strength. Super strong riding and hats off for that effort.

the seeding is a joke. I had a D seeding based on a seeding index of 39 which came from a 2:49 amashova (2013). Ended up with a 2:54 but made a huge error and forgot the timing chip at home.

well done to all...it was a great day to be out on the bike and have the freedom of the roads.

Nice ride, that is a massive effort coming from group D in that wind.

Starting in El I managed to miss my target of 3:30 by 3 minutes but considering the conditions I am more than happy with the result. I am convinced that it was a lot tougher than the last 2 years.

And again, third year in a row the blasted cramps got me on the Kassier rd climb. I was sure my training had been much better this year to dodge the cramp monster but alas, it obviously wasn't.

Goal now for next year is to shed the extra 20odd kilos I had to lug up all those hills and see the time come down..... watch this space!

That race had it all. Well organized. Fantastic route as always. Even the goodie bag was pretty cool. Loved it.

And to top it I won an Ice cream maker in the lucky draw. How arb is that.

Managed a 3:11 after lying down and crying at the top of I think 45th cutting with a massive cramp. Never had that happen before. Must seriously consider some training now.

I was one of the guys that you caught at Cato Ridge- Sappi Green and Blue kit. Glad you did as I was poked trying to catch the front AL guys who broke away on Fox Hill. Finished in the bunch with 2:44. Heard your touch of wheels up ahead at the end in the straight and nearly died!

What accent did you guys get on this route?

I got 1558m and a few others also got over 1500m...

I got 1378m on my gps but Strava decided to adjust it to 1554m. I think the first number is more accurate.

Strava shows 1559m
Garmin Connect shows 1523m

The elevation correction is enabled on my GC profile, so I'm sure the elevation above is realistic.
